I've used PuroONEs before, but have switched mostly to either the Purolator Synthetic, Bosch, or Mobil 1 filters.

That being said, in several cars, I've probably had about 200,000 miles on PureONE filters, with not a single issue at all.

    Wrong. Champion Laboratories.
    http://www.champlabs.com/content/mobil-branded-filter-limited-warranty

Even if they were made by Fram or even if Champion makes fram filters as well any manufacturer has the capability to build a top quality filter. You get what you pay for and any part can fail no matter who makes it.

Take a look at Toyota's frame rust problem.

I was always the same way. The caddy I mentioned above got it's oil changed every 2 or 3000 miles for the first 10 years I owned it. With nothing but synthetic. Mobil 1 15-50 then I went to Rotella T 5-40 when I moved where it got real cold. These new oils especially the synthetics are way, way better than the oils they had 10 or 15 years ago. Even the dino oils are good for 5000 miles between changes and that is in a carbeurated car like my Caddy was with no engine management system controlling the fuel/air ratio.

You can head over to "Bob is The Oil Guy" or "BITOG" for short. There you will find thousands of used oil analysis done on various vehicles and engines using dino and synthetic. They have tribologists and chemical engineers as well as numerous mechanics and even...... a plastic surgeon, who hang out there. The only problem at BITOG is that they seem to think that thin oil is great in just about everything. If your vehicle requires 5-30 there is always someone there who says to run 5-20 or 0-20 which is idiocy.

You can learn more about oil, grease and antifreeze there than you would ever want to know. Look up the used oil analysis they have for Mobil 1 EP 5-30. 7500 miles isn't pushing it at all for a newer engine that is in good condition. I'll be getting an oil analysis done the next time I change the oil. I'm actually changing it tomorrow but I'm waiting until the one after that since I am switching from Pennzoil to the Mobil 1 EP and want to make sure all the Pennzoil is out of there.

As for the filter it's like anything else. No matter what you buy someone will tell you that there is something better for cheaper but the fact of the matter is that the Mobil 1 oil filters are about as good as it gets for a store bought filter if you are extending your oil change intervals due to the synthetic media. They are also "bombproof" with thicker metal etc., etc. There are others just as good (I used Wix, NAPA Gold filters for years on the Caddy) but there aren't any that are much better.

Even the OCD (Cheap Fram filter) isn't as bad as they say if it is changed regularly at close intervals and the higher end Frams are actually very good filters. I used Fram Tough Guards on my Caddy for the first 10 years I owned it and never a problem but I changed the oil and filter very frequently.

This post is incredibly informative. If you haven't read it, check it out.

    5000 is good.

I wonder what guys who own mustangs, mainly the regular streetcars, weekend drivers who don't race much if at all. I would probably think they go 3000 and change. Not sure what the newer mustangs call for as far as the manual.

Not saying going longer is bad at all I guess most mustang owners MIGHT just change at 3,000 and that's just my opinion. I could be mostly off bass lol

I might post a thread there though and ask. I have a 95

I tend to agree, though, it's not necessarily bad to substitute 0W-30 for 5W-30 or 0W-40 for 10W-40, especially in climates where cold flow of the oil is important. Oil analyses can help with this, since they generally measure sheared viscosity.

There are a number of Mustang forums where you'll find just as many opinions about how to care for them, as there are opinions about how to care for Tacomas here.

According to Ford, however, recommended oil change intervals for (2013-2014) 3.7L and 5.0L engines are 7.5K-10K miles for "normal" use, 5K-7.5K miles for "severe" use, and 3K-5K miles for "extreme" use. (The manual provides brief examples of each use.) The 3.7L calls for 5W-20 synthetic oil, while the 5.0L calls for 5W-20 or 5W-50 synthetic, depending on whether the car is Track Pack equipped. Recommended interval for 5.8L (GT500) engines, like mine, is 7.5K miles or 6 mos, using 5W-50 synthetic oil.

yeah I googled right after my last post and guys were saying those 3k mile oil change days are over unless your car is maybe an 80 something model. But what I gathered though is they were talking mostly synthetic oils. I think though my car called for 3k miles or severe and 5k for normal if I recall correctly. But anyway I use 10w 30 or 40 in mine, regular oil with a motorcraft filter and change around 3k sometimes nearly 3500 or 4000. I drive the car maybe once a week. Used to be maybe 2 days a week and now that I have the Tacoma it might go down to 0 days some weeks so not sure if the car sitting more I need to just change it at 3 or so which might be damn near every 6 months or so , or close lol
