My wife made a comment today while loading my son into the truck ('15 crew cab F350) that came off as a "you better get a damn SUV like we had looked at." I have owned Tacomas in the past, have liked them and never had an issue with Toyota, except for not feeling comfortable with the amount of rust on my trucks. My first thought to trade up to was a MB G550, but it's a little out of my comfort range. Second, a new Land Cruiser. Are there any LC owners here that can share their experiences, positive or negative, as well as what to expect to pay for '15 LC?

If you're looking at a LC you have many options for family transport. I've given thought to buying one myself as the 4Runner replacement but, at this point, still can't justify the price.

The price isn't much different from other SUVs that I have looked at, unfortunately. These would include Navigators, MB GLs, BMW X5, etc.

I've driven X3s and X5s and currently drive another BMW AWD product on a semi regular basis. They are great vehicles to drive and when new(er) but, long term, not one I would consider again (as much as I like the diesel option).

Have you considered the Lexus GX (based on the 4Runner) or LX (based on the LC)? The LX is about the same price as the LC with better warrenty.

I like the look of the new full size GM SUV offerings too but, not sure I want to deal with the common domestic (named) product.

I have considered the GX and the LX is a little more than I would like to spend - would like to stay at or below $75k - but there really aren't any Lexus dealers within an hour of me, so a quick stop in to look is not very easy. I tend to agree with the German offerings. If we went that route, I'd lease. I have also had Tahoes and Yukons for rentals and was not very impressed, but would consider the Cadillac. Again, I think if lease as their resale value is less than stellar.

True on price. At 80k the LC is about 3k less than the LX but, the invoices are 5K apart. Plus the LC take regular fuel. I know it's stupid at this price point to worry about an extra $.30/gal but, I don't like it.

I had a 100 series LX for a while. Really really nice ride. The landcruisers have gotten a lot nicer since then so the gap between them is smaller as far as quality/comfort, etc.

I believe the new LX doesn't have removable third-row seats now, and that is definitely something that would impact my decision to buy one.

The additional cost in fuel wouldn't bother me as I drive a diesel anyways, but I'd be more worried about my wife pumping regular into a vehicle that requires higher octane regardless of how many times I tell her. With my luck, catastrophic failure would definitely occur!

As the owner of a 99lx470 and a 15lx570, I would say look at the 100 series LC. 98 and 99 modals come with locking diffs front and rear... Only downfall about a LC is that they are hard to find clean... the newer ones def feel bigger. They are not by much. End of the day I would recommend them to anyone. One of these days I am going to get them side by side take pictures.

only real difference in a 98 LC and a 15 LC is. Technology and the addition of the 5.7 from the 4.7. 2000 they got rid of the lockers and adding VSC and at some point added ATrac and all that stuff... LX didnt get the lockers but got the air ride and ACH suspension(smoothest ride ever). It also got the Lexus treatment inside.

Last year about this time I purchased a 94 Land Cruiser with 54,000 miles on it. Supposedly a Denver couple used it as their beach house ride in Destin. I can't compare it with the newer ones, but I can say I probably won't buy anything else. It's like a tank, wife loves it. But be aware of maintenance habits. IH8MUD is a good read.

Does it have the lockers canes? Only reason I didn't go with the 80 was the maintenance issues.

No it doesn't, wish it did even though I don't offroad. Bought it anyway because I couldn't pass it up. It's like a time capsule. An expensive time capsule.
