Upside to being cautious about parking, lots of cardio! I've watched people next to me fling open their doors like they were trapped inside, while I'm sitting in my truck. I park very far away and next to no one if possible. Even with a lowly 5-Lug, it's still mine. I like my property to stay nice.

I can't believe how some people just throw their doors open into other cars. Some dumb bitch had her door resting on a newish AMG at school today. I left the owner a note with her license plate # and my # if he needs a witness to get any damage fixed from her.

I pretty much always park with a curb on my drivers side. The PO of my truck got 3 deep dings on the passenger side and the only way I keep my sanity is because I don't look at them when I get in my truck. I don't mind when my truck has a bit of trail rash because I did it. If I find damage from some asshole it drives me nuts.

I always try to back into a spot next to a curb, then you can use your mirror to hug up to that curb as tight as possible so that the door next to you cant even reach. Or I find the nice mercedes that parked far away and park next to them.

I read an article in Corvette Magazine years ago about this very topic.

Many of those who responded were parking out in the north 40 where they were the only one around only to come out later and find some inbred parked so close to them that some reported having to enter their car by the opposite door, or there was new body damage.

The authors concluded that there seemed to be an inordinate amount of damage occurring by intentionally trying to avoid such problems. Apparently there is an envy factor among some who can't afford nice cars and they go out of their way to make a statement.

You can't escape stupid. One or two carts turns into this madness rather quickly.

In Florida, it's hot. real hot. A lot of people, very much me included, aim at parking under trees. The shade is very welcome when you come to get in the truck and it's just a little bit cooler in there.

I tend to just park wherever there is a spot, I do try to park next to a curb if its convenient/available and if someone is parked shitty and in the space im looking at ill pass which means I usually end up parking in the back at stores. That being said I have an lt truck and park on campus at my University everyday which means my truck will barely sit between the lines in some spots, I try to not to sweat it to bad. My first year at college I was driving an immaculate gmc sierra and at the end of the year I had a ton of door dings and what not, I think I spent $250 to get them PDR'd, sucks but it couldve been worse.

I used to really spend a lot of effort trying to park in a safe spot.

I have since realized that it is much less worry and effort to not give a shit. The truck is only going to last twenty years or so, and I'll probably only have it for eight to ten of those years. A ding here and there is not going to affect that. People are assholes and have no respect for property, and there is no way to change that. So I can either worry and be angry, or I can let it go and focus on other things.
