I live and work on a ranch and most of the roads are made out of caliche with a lot of clay in it. When it rains it gets stuck and builds up in my wheel wells and it has pulled the plastic liner out of my front passenger side wheel well and caused the rest to bend or come loose in spots. Other than not driving in wet weather I can not avoid this. Washing/cleaning out my wheel wells is not an option either. I may drive on the roads all day before I get a chance to clean them and it honestly only takes about ten minutes Of driving for the caliche to build up. So how do I remedy this situation? Are there heavy duty aftermarket wheel well protectors out there? Do I really need them? What happens if I take them out? This is a 2013 Tacoma that is on dirt roads ALOT but also goes up and down the highway. Thanks

Bump. I got the same problem with my 2000. And caliche? sounds like west Texas to me.

Caliche is a white clay with rock base material used on roads around here. And I'm in Deep South Texas. I actually got under there and cleaned everything out and was able to put most of it back together but did have to remove a few pieces like the forward facing mudflap.

I'd consider wiping grease up there if it's that bad. We have something similar up here that we call gumbo. Forget food grade. Just open a tube of bearing and chassis grease and get to smearing it on every possible surface. As the weight of the mud builds, it should fall right off.

I'm all for environmental consciousness, but you gotta do what you gotta do and vegetable oil ain't gonna do it.
