    Hi All -

I have noticed that my spare does not have the normal alloy 15" stock rim, but a generic black metal rim. I thought about buying an extra stock rim as the spare (and rotating it in). Has any body done this? Any issues? I will be running normal 31" tires, so tire size won't be an issue. However, just wondering if the stock alloy rim is too heavy for the underneath spare location and if it will secure correctly. I have a '98 4x4 regular cab Tacoma. Thanks for any help.

Yup, you're good to go. Any rim will work under there! I think a stock alloy should be lighter than that steelie that's hanging there now..

Thats what I'm using, but won't include it in rotation.

Check fit your tire size. To big and wide and it will hit the outer edge of the braces on the frame for that crank structure,,never fully tighten against the frame,,,and sit there and rock/bang back and fourth as you drive giving you the impression that crap has loosened or is about to fall off.:rolleyes:

You definitely want it secure under there. No bomb dropping the spare at speed on the freeway. Seen them fall off out from under, catch under the vehicle and stand that sucker right up on it's front bumper. Pretty sure the occupants pulled a couple positive g's on the way over the spare.
