Driving on a disconnected Speed Sensor??

Hi everyone,

It's my first post here. I'm so grateful to find such an amazing resource. I have a 2007 Tacoma V6. My dog decided to chase a chipmunk underneath my truck and in the process, ripped the wires that attach to the speed sensor at the site of the transmission. They were ripped flush to the wire housing, so I can't just reconnect them. I should be getting the part I need in a week or so to fix it.

But my question is this: Can I drive without a working speed sensor without hurting anything? I've done a lot of research on this up to this point, but I can't get a straight answer.

My truck is a manual, so it shouldn't hurt the transmission, right? Currently, I have no speedometer, odometer and my fuel gage is acting funky, but other than that, the truck seems perfectly drivable.

I'm wondering if I'm in the clear because I have a manual transmission? Any help or input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much.

 

The stuff you've mentioned plus probably no ABS, I think you're good to go.

 

The only other thing I've heard was something about it affecting the fuel ratio. Because there's no speedometer, the truck thinks that I'm not moving, therefore it runs leaner. Do you think there's any truth to this at all? I just don't want to ruin my baby...

 

I know your question is more about harming your truck. But, if it turns out ok to drive without the sensor you can always use a Garmin GPS to monitor your speed.
