Any one have any tips on doing a timing set replacement on a 2.7? The manual says to ensure that cylinder 1 is at TDC, and both balance shafts weights are in the down position (how the hell do you know that) then move onto the timing chain. I set the timing marks and colored links properly. Set the tensioner and rotated the engine. Put it back at TDC and the links are not lined up on the gear marks??

I dont want to mess this part up!! Any tips are tricks would be appreciated!

how many miles do you have? as I understand it the timing chain lasts forever and never wears out so why do you think you need to change it? if its just for routine maint then leave it alone, its not needed.

only the v6 with its timing "belt" wears out and needs replacing

Thanks for the help. I figured it out ..

    The tensioner failed. Chain broke.

wow that sucks, its so rare for these engines to have timing chain related issues

they have threads showing a service manual you can download for these trucks so do a little searching to get one for any future issues you might have
