Okay - So i've been doing some research and I'm starting to get stumped. I've done a number on my rear bumper and I'm getting ready to replace it. I have stock suspension and need to keep the hitch, so I'm a little limited on what I can work with. I dont do much extreme off roading, but I am looking for protection from rear ending.

Basically I'm trying to figure out the weight of the stock bumper to make my decision, but I dont know enough about what goes into this to decide. What I'd like to do is keep the stock bumper and add the Avid Off Road rear bumper guard. The bumper guard only weighs 35lbs, doesnt need any additional suspension work, and is cheaper. What I'm wondering is if the stock bumper + the AOR Guard = more weight than just replacing with a full steel bumper.

Any advice would be nice. I dont know much about replacing bumpers, what would go into it, etc. etc. but I'm pretty handy with a good set of directions.

If you are trying to save your bumper from damage in a rear end collision then all you will do is transfer the force to the frame, and your physical body, and buckle the frame and end up with serious injuries. Remember it is called a bumper. It is good for a bump not a collision. The stronger the bumper the more the frame and your physical body has to absorb. Remember if the bumper is stronger than the frame it is attached to the frame is what goes and you are in a worst place than you started with.

As for weight contact the people selling the parts and get the weight of each then you will be sure. However if you are talking parking lot type bumps try this.

Right, I've got the weight of the specific parts I would replace with, what i'm looking for is the weight of the stock bumper. Honestly the biggest problem with my bumper is that its bent out and acting like a massive air scoop like a flap on an airplane wing. Got caught on a tree stump while being winched. Essentially I'm looking for a bumper I'm only going to need to replace once.

Thanks for the tip on the superbumper. Those things are pretty cool. Also the thought about the frame.
