Is a limited slip additive needed for the rear axle oil in my 2012 LWB 4X4 TRD?
I didn't see anything in the owners manual other than the requirement for 75W-85 oil with a GL-5 rating.
When I drained it, it smelled pretty strong like it had the additive in there from the factory.

If you have a rear locker then the additive is not needed. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong).

No. Your truck does not need an additive.

    Thanks again guys.;)
It seemed like I had read that before but my OCD kicked in.
I changed the oil in all the boxes. This was the first time and I was a bit over at 35K. Actually, according to the maint schedule, that would be delayed to a much higher mileage if you don't tow with it.
The old oil looked fine but the magnetic drain plugs had big gobs of crap on them.
I treated it to synthetic gear oil and new gaskets.
Other than the price for the oil, it was all pretty painless. There is really no excuse not to do this maintenance item.

your not being OCD. IMO they should tell you to change it after the first 5k miles to get rid of the HORRIBLE break in oil. Its pretty much toast after 5k, when i drained mine it looked like it came out of something with 60k miles on it.
