Like many of you, I find the composite bed of the Tacoma a little slippery. The common cure seems to be the installation of a bed mat. My question is, how do you make use of the D-rings when they're covered by the mat. I have read on this forum that some fols have used a hole saw to allow access. Is this a common modification?

My next question is, has anyone removed the D-ring, installed the bed mat, drilled a hole, then bolted the D-ring back on top of the bed mat? Is this a viable option?

The bed mat that I have is cut/molded to fit around the rear D rings. The front tie down loops are on the box walls. I believe that my mat is made by Husky.... not sure.

Took like 2 minutes to cut mine, it is not the Toyota bed mat. Think it's made by Dee-Zee.

Thanks for the help, guys. I realized that although Tacomas are everywhere down here, I'd never taken the time to look in the beds of any of them. Glad to know there's several different options. It's my birthday next week, so I think that's what my wife is getting me as a gift...she just doesn't know it yet.

Oh, I'll make sure she understands how much I appreciate it. You don't make 37 years together without letting each other know they're still the most special person in your life.

I have a 1/4" thick bed mat (can't remember the brand) and 6 D-rings installed in the bed. I cut 4 holes in the bed mat to expose the 4 d-rings at the front near cab. The bed mat is shaped to allow the 2 rings to be exposed at the tailgate. Easy peasy....just cut holes.
