Bluetooth steering wheel controls.

I have an 09 with non JBL. I was thinking of buying Blu Logic, if I do can I get the steering wheel controls or am I SOL?

 

Update. I am buying a '14 touch screen radio with BT built into it. Now I just need to buy the steering wheel column to hook it all up.

i did this exact process today, i cant get the hands free calling to work but the others which were OME still work just fine but mine have never lit up either i dont think.

 

Can anyone tell me what I am missing? I am trying to install and Android receiver from Pumpkin but the connectors do not seem to match. This picture shows what was connected to my JBL factory stereo

I am doing a write up with Bluetooth controls for adding the right side phone controls to the steering wheel . I may have some info in my stereo build thread that may help you out .
My truck came from factory without the bluetooth controls on the right side of the steering wheel but I have the volume controls -2010 double cab TRD sport with NO JBL and left side factory volume controls.

Does anyone have a part number for the blank part for the steering wheel that everyone is replacing for Bluetooth button?? Want to add blank to the right side and music controls on the left??

 

Kinda bumping an old ass thread but...

I just did this today as part of my new stereo install.
Pioneer NEX-8200, Axxes ASWC 1 and Toyota P/N 84250-04010-BO (this is both controls and the ribbon cable).
I am kinda OCD so I got both steering wheel controls so that they would match (lighting and finish). Part was $146.99 via TRDparts4u/Toyota of Dallas.

The BT switches are super easy to install, took me longer to find my Torx set then it did to do the job. The ASWC worked perfectly and since others have asked, I can confirm that Siri works perfectly via Apple Carplay. Just long press the voice button (bottom) and Siri pops up on the head unit. I used the mic that came with the head unit, no need to search out the OEM mic.

Great little mod, easy to do and makes my truck look more complete (always hated the blanked out buttons on the right side of the wheel).

If there is anybody interested in doing this upgrade, but on STEROIDS, look for part number 84244-58051-B0, or a low dose of 'roids part number 84244-58031-B0.

Note that B0, E0, E1 are colors (dark grey, black, dark brown), so don't buy -E0 or -E1.

These are NOT easy parts to find, and are a bit expensive. I identified them from a russian forum via google translate, and I managed to order them (well, I ordered the 58051) through Amayama Trading Co.
Hopefully doesn't take too long to arrive.

Now obviously, the buttons themselves won't align with any function that Tacoma has, but with an aftermarket head unit, you should be able to choose your own extra functions.

Not yet. I actually tried to place an order with amayama, but they effed up the order and ended up giving me a refund. Then I moved and didn't have any time for messing with this for a while, and eventually forgot about it. Your message notified my email about this, and reminded me to try again, so now I've placed an order with "megazip.net", who says that the order should be arriving between the 20th and 27th of this month. Guess we will see...

Top 2 are bluetooth control, bottom one is to initiate voice control mode.
I believe that the middle two are something to do with adaptive cruise control, or maybe warning you when you are driving too close to something?
The one on the inside appears to be for some kind of forward scanner. Maybe radar detection?

 

Ok, so just a little bit of an update...
Turns out that the color suffix is **inconsistent**. The meaning of the suffix differs depending on the rest of the part number.
Previous information suggested that "-B0" would be dark grey.
So I ordered an 84244-58051-B0, and it arrived today.... LIGHT grey. Definitely not a match.

I'm not going to send it back or order another.
I'm going to paint it.
Probably in a few months.
It really isn't that big of a deal to me that the color is wrong, since it will still do the job.

But if you're planning to order one, just keep in mind that a BLACK -E0 would probably be a closer match to Tacoma's DARK GREY.

 

I have one that is the dark gray(audio volume control) that will let it go for 425 + SHIPPING

It would probably be a good idea for you to put down a part number, since that is how you would identify which "one" you have, that you are trying to sell.

When you say "audio volume control".... are you meaning to say that you are trying to sell the LEFT side button controls?

 

Ok, finalized the imported parts install and adaptation.

This is in reference to right hand steering wheel controls with part numbers 84244-58031 and 84244-58051.

58031 has FIVE switches,
58051 has SIX switches.

Now the unfortunate part of these two switches is that the extra switches (the ones in addition to the three bluetooth controls), do NOT hook into either of the resistor networks that are passed over to the radio. So while you can plug the switches into the steering wheel, buttons 4-6 will not be functional, UNLESS you make a few fairly easy modifications.



The pins numbered 1-8 are for the ribbon wire socket that runs to the left hand controls.
Things to note about the wiring;
pins 2-3 are tied together by a trace, same with pins 4-5.
The "primary" resistor network for the bluetooth controls create a variable resistance between THOSE two groups (2-3) <--> (4-5).

The two switches added by 58031 are labelled on the board in silkscreen as "DISP-ON" and "DISP-OFF". These two switches are an extra resistor network that works between pin 7 and the (2-3) group. You will notice a resistor in the picture connecting from pin 7 to pin 4. This is a 2.2k ohm resistor, which attaches the DISP-ON and DISP-OFF buttons into the primary resistor network. You can do the job cleaner by selecting the right physical size of surface mount resistor and just soldering it into the gap between pins 5 and 7. The pin spacing on that socket is 2.54 mm, so I'd probably look for an 0805 package surface mount resistor, which is 2.0 mm long, which will fit between the pads and comfortably reach the solder pool.

Now while that single resistor adds the buttons into the network, the surface mount resistor at R4 isn't enough to vary the resistance sufficiently to inform an aftermarket radio that they are, in fact, two different buttons. To solve this, I cut the trace (very sharp knife) between points that I labelled as "D" and "E" on the board, and jumped the gap with a 120 ohm resistor. The 120 was better, but the radio showed its reading flickering between DISP-ON and DISP-OFF when pressing the DISP-ON button. I ended up going up to a 220 ohm resistor, and then it could read it very solidly. You can do the job cleaner by just replacing R4 with a bigger surface mount resistor. Remember that the resistance of a series circuit is the SUM of the individual resistances in the series. R4 is a "2400", which means 240 ohm -- the last digit in a surface mount resistor code indicates the power of 10 to multiply it with, so in this case 2400 --> 240 * 10^0, and anything to the power of 0 is "1", so 240. That means that an appropriate replacement value would be 240+220 = 460 ohm. 470 would be a very common size and would be a suitable replacement, I believe the physical size should be 0805 based on looking at it, but not actually measuring.

Now on to the last bit. This would be specifically for the 58051, which adds a button to the back of the switch block that you reach around and pull forward. This switch's circuit attaches to pins 6 and 8. There are no resistors, it is a simple ON-OFF switch. My first attempt with this one was to bridge the gap between pins 4 and 6 with solder, and run a resistor from pin 8 to pin 2. This would have worked, had it not been for the fact that apparently, one or both of pins 6 and 8 are actually hooked up to something. Instead of this switch just not working, it actually disabled everything on that resistor network. So I removed all that and instead cut the traces from pins 6 (disconnect pin 6 from trace B) and 8 (disconnect pin 8 from trace A). I then scraped the insulation off of trace B and jumped it to solder point F on the board. Point F connects to pins 2-3. Next, I scraped the insulation off trace A and soldered in a resistor from there to pin 4. Note: This resistor is 5.6k ohm. And now ALL of the switches are readable by the aftermarket car radio.

If you go with surface mount resistors for the DISP-ON/DISP-OFF circuit, I would still go with a through-board resistor for the pull button, but it could be positioned on the board in the place where I put the 2.2k ohm resistor to make it a lot neater.

Note: NONE of these buttons (except the 3 bluetooth ones) will be recognized by a factory radio.

Parts required;
1) One of 84244-58031 or 84244-58051
2) 2.2k ohm 1/4 watt 5% resistor (red-red-red-gold), OR surface mount physical size 0805 resistance code 2201 (2.2k ohm) to go from pin 5 to 7.
3) 220 ohm 1/4 watt 5% resistor (red-red-brown-gold), OR surface mount physical size 0805 resistance code 4700 (470 ohm) to replace R4.
4) IF using 58051: 5.6k ohm 1/4 watt 5% resistor (green-blue-red-gold).

Total cost of resistors: About 1 cent.
Total cost of switches: Well that's a Toyota factory part that has to be imported from Japan, so.... do your best to negotiate a fair price.
