    Hello,

I just recently bought a 2015 Tacoma and am looking to do a full upgrade on the audio system, minus the head unit. I am not looking for anything obnoxiously loud, but definitely want more bass and volume than comes stock. My primary constraint is something that has a lot of clarity and isn’t intrusive (I don’t want a sub box on my back seat). I found some links on a subwoofer installation, which can be found below; but haven’t found much on upgrading the door speakers. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hey Kyle,

I called them. The guy said all that they could recommend is the Stealthbox I posted a link to above. I would really like to have two speakers behind the seats, and it wouldn't matter to me if I had to put the other one behind the driver side seat. The door speakers aren't really as big of a deal as I can probably play with the sound settings to get those how I like them if I can get two sub speakers in the back.

Mostly depends on your budget. Focal has really nice speakers starting around $100 and going way up from there. I have focal ps 165 components up front and coaxials in the back with a Jl 360x4 amp (I think) for them. They sound really good. Also have two Jl micro subs (8") behind the seats, they are perfect. Sound deadening will help a lot too.

What is your budget?I would suggest a sound processor if your going to keep stock head unit
.gives you a better sound quality..

On the stealthbox, I get conflicting stories. Two shops have told me that the 2012+ stealthbox will not fit my 2013, but the pre-2012 one will. If I recall, on the door side of your plastic bins, there is an area that slants inward. (see pic in your link for stealthbox). I don't remember if I looked at that on mine, but I will. I don't think mine slopes in, as my ammo can and chains fit as they did in my 07. If the pre-2012 will fit, it has 2 sub in it.

I will try to take a pic tonight when I get home...

When I upgraded my stereo I installed a custom box which holds 2 10's (kickers) behind the rear seat. Installed a rockford fosgate 500x2 amp under the pass seat and hooked it up to a line out converter off the factory deck. Replaced the factory speakers with infinity kappa 6x9's up front and infinity kappa 6 1/2 in rear door.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My budget is between 800-1200. I'm looking at sound processors now, and I'm having trouble deciding which one would be best. At this point, I think I'm only going to add subwoofers and keep the factory speakers. The setup I'm considering currently can be found below.

    ???????

Right now, components look like they're coming in around $650, and I got a quote for putting the whole system in for $150, so about $800 out the door.

I feel like there's a good chance your bass will completely overpower your door speakers and you wont get a very good balanced system. Although I am not sure if the sound processor will help with that. I just remember back in highschool, all my friends installed subs in their cars and left everything else stock and it sounded terrible...way too much bass. Like I said though, your planning on getting the sound processor and you've got a 2015 so maybe it wont be an issue. I guess you could always add door speakers in the future if you need to. Just my thoughts, hope it turns out!

@VandalTaco, you were right. I eventually got tired of keeping my bass so low just so my door speakers could keep up. I ended up replacing the six door speakers and hooking up to 600w Alpine amp. Below are parts and pictures (finished only since I didn't do the installation myself). The whole system ran me $2,210.87 and I am very happy with it. The only thing I think I would redo is to get a custom box built so that both amps would fit behind the back seat. My second amp had to go under my seat with is a minor annoyance for anyone sitting behind me.

Did you bolt the Alpine PDX under the seat through the floor board?

Why do people put 6x9's upfront when they are installing an after market sub?
I thought the 6.5" were meant to be superior if you are putting a sub in.. and 6x9s are good if you don't want an after market sub?

Buy the stealthbox with two 10’s. All you need is to change out your passenger side rear cubby. I had to change mine out to fit the single 10 stealthbox. 12-15 models are suppose to have the curved side cubby which is made for the single 10. Mine came with the straight side cubby which works for the dual 10 stealthbox. I’ll sell you mine for cheap. Btw, the single ten stealthbox jams.
