So this past week I had my truck serviced for the 30k mile mark. The dealer wanted to do the following: engine air filter change, AC cabin filter change, electronic fuel injection cleaning/ $120.00, tire alignment/$99.00, rear brake clean and adjust/ $50-100. I only had them change the cabin filter because I figured I couldn't do it myself. I changed the engine filter to a k&n filter. I also refused the rear brake clean and the fuel injection cleaning. How important are these to do? Can I just buy a fuel injection cleaner at pep boys and pour it in the tank? Or is this something that is vital to the health of the truck?

Thanks in advance for the help/suggestions.

People live by this stuff so I try to use this in all my vehicles. Pricey, but very good (so I'm told)

Had a mechanic recommend that to me the other day. Watched him run it through the TB of a customers car with some weird air powered sprayer.

    Clean rear brakes? Huh?

I wonder why they didn't also recommend cleaning the front brakes? If you are going to engage in upselling, you may as well get serious about it.

Post the name of the dealership so others in your area will know what to expect.

you realize in the owners manual it tells you how to replace the cabin air filter?

dealer is trying to scam you. Throw a bottle of good injector cleaner in the tank 5-10 bucks. (redline s1 or gumout with regane actually have the proper ingredient to clean injectors and in some of the highest concentrations)

    Rear brakes dont need cleaning.

do you have weird tire wear or does the truck pull.... if not no alignment needed

Only other thing is spark plugs, and those are easy enough.

hmmm your spark plugs are due at 30k
also they measure tbe front brakes and if they need work they will let you know
rear drums do need cleaning and adjustment from time to time but also should be inspected before offering that service
alignment? all depends if you need it not required.
EFI service is just something to sell, but the BG stuff is really good.
K & N filter requires cleaning and oiling at certain intervals
and i do work at toyota and own a tacoma. we dont usually sell bullshit services just to sell....
