Help me decide how much to ask....

I am going to be putting my 1998 Tacoma on the market to get a truck that is capable of towing my boat.. I would like to get your input on what I should ask based on lots of experienced folks!

1998 Tacoma SR5
Surfside green metallic
2.7 liter
4x4
182k miles
Michelin tires have < 10k miles on them
interior good
exterior has some bumps, dings but in overall good shape

The pics are from 2 years ago, but the truck hasn't changed except for mileage.

Kelley blue book or NADA

 

go to Kelly blue book and check the value then ask $2k more then that price. that is what the average asking price is for these trucks being sold.

ask $2k over book value and settle for no less then $1k over book value, that is the fair market value for your truck. unlike other vehicles these tacos bring a premium over book value when selling

im seeing a value for it at $4750 if it is in excellent condition so ask $6750 and if you get $5750 or better you did ok

How is the frame condition as far as rust?

 

No rust on the frame

 

Don't listen to the guy about adding 2k to your truck's kbb or NADA value, hence the reason you put in your zip and they sort demographics for you.
Check kbb and NADA but more importantly find comparables in your area of trucks with similar year and mileage on CL/private sales and on dealer lots and go from there.
You have a nice truck with great mileage that will sell swiftly for market value.

+1 to the part in bold. KBB and NADA can be a PARTIAL guide, but compare it to whats out there. That can change everything. If you go only by KBB it could leave money on the table.

My GTO shows for $6,500 through KBB. I find higher mileage ones in the same or worse condition going for 9-10k on a weekly basis. Just food for thought, "book value" is not always right on.

do you even have a clue what first gen Tacomas sell for? obviously you don't or you wouldn't be giving the guy bad advice to sell it much lower then its true value as determined by the market.
