Adding Kicker subs, amp to factory '13 Tacoma BAJA head unit, help please?

So like the heading says. I picked up a dual sub enclosure, Kicker subs, Kicker amp and wiring kit form a local guy on CL. I know how to wire an amp and subs but I'm not familiar with the Toyota head unit so any links and or advice would be great. I tried searching "adding subs and amp to factory head unit" in this section and the Audio section and nothing popped up.

Here's the subs, enclosure and amp I got for reference. Oh, yeah, I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma BAJA dcsb with the non-gps H.U.. Thanks in advance.

Check out Taco Tunes, I think they have a device that lets you hook up an amp and sub without cutting factory wires. Not sure if it's will work for you.

Ok is there another way to do this other than spending $300 for that convertor from *********? I like my factory head unit and would like to keep it but I can get an aftermarket head unit for the price of the convertor.

 

I put a dual 10" custom box in my 2015 Taco like a month ago. Local shop told me they were going to feed the amp/subs off the rear speaker cables directly instead of having to tap into the factory head unit.

They never charged me for any special connectors and it sounds awesome so I figure it worked!

Kyitty, I know I could do that but I wasn't sure about these newer H.U.'s and the whole wiring harness, etc. for the system.

I don't have the Entune H.U. if that makes a difference.

 

Oh okay. Mine is the Entune Plus that comes with the 2015 SR5 package.

Check out the link in my sig. A line output converter for both front and rear will do the trick. I ran my fronts to my amp, which powers front and rear. I ran my rears to the sub amp. On mine, the signal is attenuated at the head unit, so you won't get a full signal without using a digital signal processor of some kind to rebuild those frequencies. I researched the hell out of this and went with a miniDSP to do that. It was the best cost/benefit compromise I could find.

 

It was a cheap scosche (sp?) from Walmart believe. This was on a GMC Sierra a few years ago. Had some engine noise come through speakers and had to get ground loop isolator, another $20. Worked perfect after that

 

It's not cost effective to use the factory entune or head unit with aftermarket amps. The stock hu is preset to reduce the bass range once a certain volume level is met. You need a Cleansweep to flatten the factory response curve and avoid losing bass frequencies at high volumes.

Audiocontrol has one too, but it's passive unlike the clean sweep, and could need frequent manual adjustment if you change music types. It also causes line noise, from what I've read.

You'd be better off getting a new hu source for the cost of a clean sweep, unless keeping the stock appearance and features is important.

 

Yup, that's what I was saying. The BitTEN from what I've read is the best solution if you want premium sound while keeping the HU.
