Ok first off I'd like to introduce myself since I'm new here, names Cody and I'm from Georgia. I've had my Tacoma for nearly 10 years and I love it. Also want to thank you guys/gals in advance for any help or advice. So here's the story, I rerecently committed a random act of foolishness and in the process hydrolocked my motor(3rz-Fe) and have since torn it down to the bare block. It freely turns by hand nearly a full rotation but stops in each direction when the #1 and #4 are nearly at tdc. I've since narrowed this issue down to a bent con rod on the #3 piston since when #2 and #3 are at tdc the #3 is about 1/4" from actually reaching the top. I plan to do a full rebuild so it's coming out anyway but my biggest concern is crank damage??? Also, I'm planning on installing the lce supercharger kit during the rebuild and would like to know what all vacuum hoses/devices(egr, evaporated, etc) can be completely deleted from the system? I want things as simple as possible. Again thanks!!

All you can do is look the crank over and measure it. Yes, the egr can easily be deleted as well. Not sure about what else you can remove..

Thanks man!I pretty much figured that, mostly just wanted to hear any experience with the same issue. Hopefully it's just the rod and nothing else. also wondering if it would be easier to assemble the motor on a stand including the supercharger and then dropping it in or leave the SC off until the motor is in.

Also I've got the motor down to the bare block(still in the truck since I originally didn't plan on doing a full rebuild) I've unbolted both motor mounts and I'm dead certain I removed all the bell housing bolts but I can't get it to budge, I've tried jacking the transmission up just enough to take pressure off the input shaft but nothing! Is there a trick to it?

Did you get the one bolt at the very top of the bell housing? The input shaft may be froze to the crankshaft. You have to rack on it pretty hard to get the input shaft to release from the engine. I'd remove the engine and tranny in one shot.

Is it an auto or manual? If its and auto did you unbolt the torque converter?
I assume manual because you said input shaft.
Alot of times they get stuck on the alignment dowels but usually free up fairly easy.

It's a manual and yes I've removed all the bolts the checked and double checked cause that's usually my luck. Only thing about removing both together is I still have to get them apart..which may be easier once out of the truck. Id just rather not pull the tranny too if I don't have to. I'm gonna yank on it some more this evening.

Also is there anywhere besides lc engineering that I can get con rods?

bolt the tranny back on and pull them as a unit, then you can jerk the tranny loose after its on the ground where you have room to work on it. many times I have had to jerk them apart when they get stuck, its never fun or easy but sometimes it just takes some grunting and pulling as you wiglle it loose.

with it on the ground it will be much easier to replace everything and reconnect them too.

You can get rid of the balance shaft when you rebuild, I think you need a kit for it though.

FINALLY!!! got it out, decided to TRIPLE check and turns out I left 1 bolt the one hidden back by the slave cylinder. Took it out, lifted up on the block and slipped right out. Now to finish tearing it down and see if my crank survived.

Well I've got everything torn down everything looks great except the one bent rod. I've been cleaning up the block but don't want to paint it until I get the shop to bore it. So now I'm putting my attention on the head. I pulled all the buckets/shims but haven't touched the valves. Gonna have the shop check it out but I'm wondering what the best way to clean it is?
