Hey guys, my transmission was skipping, would hit the gas and rpm would jump to 3-4k then the transmission would catch truck would jump and then everything was fine, figured I would try to at least maintain the problem or make the situation better on my transmission, I drained my transmission and read my user manual to see how much fluid to put back in it, I have a 98 tacoma 4x4, manual said 1.7 to 2.0 liters, I have put a bottle of lucas transmission treatment in along with 3 quarts of tranny fluid. Im still reading 4-6 inches below where I need to be on my dipstick. Any advice or reasoning of whats going on would be appreciated, also trust the dipstick or the user manuals? Help me out guys!!!!

Mine took more than what was recommended for a drain and refill. Keep checking the dipstick and slowly add until you reach the fill mark. I put in fluid and it did the same thing. I checked and was low, so I added until full and no more slipping.

Thanks for the reply, I will do this and hopefully it will help out, when I drained it the fluid wasn't very immmm pink or red, kind of a blackish red, so might possibly be on the downhill slope for the ole tranny.... but I think 300k on one is doing fairly well.... might be time to start saving and looking!!!

It will change color for sure, mine was about the same. 300k is awesome! I'm at 145k and going strong! Just get a rebuild, and keep going when she goes ...
