The gas struts really make raising an lowering a one man job. I tried without the gas struts and even with two people it was a struggle to do it manually.

I did away with the extruded aluminum bars for mounting the tent an fabricated a new platform bolted to the tent base. This allows me to hoist the RTT and platform off the rack when not necessary
    RTTRafters_zpse50b4ee2_8d6453c15b021c58c2c51079830abf1fa5c7454d.jpg

It's working out perfectly for me. Very secure when in the raised position, any movement while up there is in the truck suspension. My wife sleeps up there with me ;).

Took me over two years to design and build this - I did all the metal fabrication, save for the tube bending and the welding, in my garage/backyard

    Enjoy your build :D

I do leave the rack on 24/7. I've used it to strap my surfboards to and has come in real handy with lumber runs from Home Depot. Fooling around some, and I've created a 'safari top' using a duck cloth tarp, some 1/2" EMT conduit and some velcro and ratchet straps

That's a pretty cool design. When I finally pull the plug on a RTT...I'll refer to your idea here. Nice work.

This is what I have has the blue seas dual USB port, 2 12v plugs, 1 4pin marine plug for LEDs (dimmable/different colors), and a two pin port to feed it with.

Got the rack and tent all mounted up. Slept in it on Sunday night in the driveway. 10 inch rise above the bedrails and I have 26.25" of gear height with an OEM mat in the bed.

Custom made bed rack. I have the Tepui Kukenam with no annex and I slept well in it the other night. Should add another couple nights this weekend.
