Am I the only one that would buy a Diesel Toyota Tacoma or Hilux in a heartbeat?

I have been driving diesels in one form or another for 15 years and I have never had a problem finding diesel fuel in the south. Now grant you, it does look funny with my little Jetta in the 18 wheeler portion of the truck stop :D

You would actually be surprised how 'clean' modern tractors and construction equipment are. They put scrubbers in the exhaust to help clean the emissions before being released. They also don't have to deal with stop and go traffic, they idle higher all the time which helps burn the fuel more completely vs a low idle. Some even have a system where the exhaust is fed back into the engine so partially spent fuel is burned off again but there's a debate as to whether or not it is actually a good system or one that just ruins the engine.

I would take one in a heartbeat. The 1st Toyota truck I ever owned was an 82 Hilux with the 2.2 diesel and 5 speed. Not a powerhouse, but still did ok (needed to be turbocharged). I averaged 46 mpg daily driving. 258,000 miles before it finally had no power. The only maintenance performed on the motor, and I repeat, the only maintenance was the normal timing belt change, valve adjustment, and a couple of fuel filters. My dad still has it on the farm and we are getting ready to haul it off for scrap as you can no longer get engine parts for it and it needs to be rebuilt. Wish I had another one. :D

Absolutely. That would be the very next vehicle I buy. I don't know why Toyota won't make a diesel Tacoma.

I just came back from overseas and whilst there had a pleasure of driving a Hilux 3.0 D4D turbocharged diesel truck. What a pleasure.
