Several years ago myself and a buddy caught two guys getting ready to break into his car at a mall. One of them was in a car kind of waiting in case they needed to split the other had a slim Jim.

Anyway we decided to play sneaky Pete and snuck up close then ran up and tackled the one on foot. The one in the car took off and we beat the shit out off the guy with the slim Jim. Seeing as he was a POS thief we took his wallet and kept the 400 bucks in cash that he had on him.

I'm confident that our justice was better than the county's.

No place is safe from theft really. Truck stops have huge theft problems and there are drivers walking to and from their trucks constantly. Seems like many people I know have had their car broken into at home.

Just my opinion here I'd never put any firearm related decal on my truck to a thief its advertising that there might be a firearm inside.

More than that I'm pretty sure that assault is illegal as well even if the person was about to commit a crime unless they try to attack you first.

Because depending on what they take you might notice it is gone.
it might be a day later if it's something like a gun or check book or credit card.
The longer takes you to figure out that you have been burglarized, the more time the theif has to get away and sell or use your stuff.

The best crime is the crime no one knows about.
Even if it's just a couple hours of no one knowing.

Over 20 years ago, I and a buddy caught a guy actuality in my buddies camero after he broke into it. I ran down the guys partner who turned out to be a girl then went to help my buddy. Turns out he didn't need any help. The thief left (barely, and very slowly) empty handed and completely beat to shit. Was a very good night.
