I love my opinels. I have a no6 no7 and no8. Even gave them out as groomsmans presents at my wedding. Used to carry one every day, but have been carrying one that my father in law gave me for xmas. I think its called a kershaw leek, maybe. I like it alot cause its so slim, but had to nip the end of the blade a bit cause it would bend at the very tip.

Kershaw has a lifetime warranty..? I guess free repairs is a negative thing.

The Leek is super thin, but it's a light duty slicer not a utility blade.

Nice I used to carry this one but the lock mechanism kept slipping and allowed the blade to close. Now it sits in a drawer.

Not sure why everybody buys the Kershaw Leek. So many stories of the tips breaking cause they are so thin.

I have a Cryo 2 (pictured below), and that thing is stout.

Took my crappy kershaw cyro tanto and made it into a drop point, God that thing was hideous before!!! Had to hollow out the grind and then start putting the bevel back on. Im still in the process or putting a good edge on it, the tip has some issues and still needs to be reworked but i got this thing dirt cheap and was about to just throw it away, now it will be a good beater knife

Finish the tip by hand if you're using power tools to shape your blade and grind, which I assume is the case. You'll likely burn the tip right off of the blade, or you'll destroy it by overheating it.

Did you mean to say you hollowed the grind? I don't know what the original grind was but it doesn't look like you made a hollow grind, so I'm guessing you meant to say you feathered the edge back and thinned the grind. If it is hollow ground to begin with and not a chisel grind or saber grind, you'll have major problems with that edge breaking now.

What are you using to do the work? Are you making sure to keep the blade steel cool to the touch when you're doing your material removal?

I re profiled the tanto into this shape on a belt sander then laid back my home made sharpening system similar to the edge pro system to around 10deg using DMT stones, and put the first bevel on it to thin out the section where the tip bevel met the main bevel, that's the only way it would get sharp the entire length of the blade. So everything but the re profile was done by hand, didn't heat up at all and has a decent mirror polish on the main bevel now, around 44deg inclusive. I also put a micro bevel on it with my spyderco UF ceramic

Cool. Any black spots on the blade at all? Near the tip especially? I can see you probably burned it off. I did the same thing before, so don't hear that as a jab.

From the picture it looks like your edge is pretty unevenly ground. I could be wrong, just guessing. My eyes have tricked me before.

Good job, also. It's nice to experiment with cheaper knives and not worry too badly about screwing up.

I'm thinking of flattening the tip of mine right now. any ideas while I'm grinding it down?

Nope, no black at all. The only uneven part it out just behind the tip which is where I originally stated needs more work, I'll tinker with it some more but that's all this was, to see if I could pull it off, I have some other ones that are much sharper and better to look at than the heavy, ugly kershaw cyro. It was supposed to be the drop point hinderer non black wash from theclymb.com but this is what they shipped (twice) :( so I'm making the best of the cheap purchase

Thanks for the feedback and tips James!! No offense taken, no jabs that I saw

i don't have a fancy sharpener but would it be a bad idea if i take the micro bevel off my kiss? this knife is my first try and reshaping. I'm not really afraid to fuck it up lol
