My search kung fu is not strong with this one. :) Searching 8's or 8" mids or 8 inch midbass etc etc isn't doing so well for me.

Would like to see 8" door midbass installs in 2nd gen tacoma's.. Doing research.

Contemplating a 3-way with an 8" mated to a mid in the OEM tweet spot, and tweeters in the sails. Got Scanspeak D3004's on the shelf for the sails, and thinking something like a Dayton RS75 or Fountek FR88 etc that would fit in the door, with an 8" down below if it can go in.

Maybe the venerable JL Audio ZR800-CW possibly, if it can mate well with something as small as a mid in the OEM tweeter spot.
Or alternately the new Stereo Integrity TM65 if it needed to remain a 6-1/2" driver for ease of install.

Gracious! Ok I'm in the hunt then for three way. Appears the little OEM tweet spot will be the constraint to work around.

yeah, lots of really amazing 3 ways on the market.
ID suggest custom A-pillars to house the tweeter and full range mid.
I personally don't like the idea or aspect of mounting a full range in the stock tweeter location. If your going big, might as well go all the way :)

Good point.. Yeah the sails just look super easy and a cheap messup, should ya mess up, or change later, but the pillars may be where it's at if incorporating mids.

Now that I've gotten myself over my 'pod' fabrication fears with the project on my Civic build, I was thinking that'd be the way to go. Nowhere near the space capability in the pillars though in this truck compared to copious amounts of space in the little car with long dash. But do-able.

I'll be looking at builds in here, diyma, caj, etc for 2nd gen tacoma pillars. The famous Bing at Simplicity In Sound I believe did a Taco build not long ago I think. I'll search.

Yeah that new mid is actually getting some seriously good reviews. For it's size and especially depth, it's supposed to be a mid-bass monster but still quite clean for 3-way duty.

i should be doing some a-pillar work in the next month with the mercury k62s for a client.
I am currently hoping he will go to the k63s so i can do a full 3 way with full range in the pillar as well as tweeter

He did do a Tacoma, but from what I recall it was just a two way with small tweeters in the pillars. I have my L1R2s in the pillars, but haven't completely finished them. I want to leave myself open to options and not waste the good factory matched texture/color vinyl I have. The look of superglued t shirt material doesn't totally annoy me.

I have a pair of exdous anarchys that I bought for a potential 3 way system. Not sure if my wife will allow me to spend more money on stereo upgrades - I might just build some tapped horns for HT subwoofer duty.

gosh.. where do I start, 18x9’s on 275-65 ridge grapplers. Bilsteins, clazzio leather, audio consists of stereo integrity, fosgate power amps, sundown audio, hybrid audio. Plus more...
we just put in a set of fosgate punch pro 8" in my doors and they fit. they sound pretty good too. ran off a fosgate power 1000-4 amp. u do have to build them out with another ring around the adapter. oh and watch out for the window.

how low do the PPS 8's play? spec sheet says ~80hz

where are you crossing them to the tweeters or do you have dedicated upper midrange?

80hz is way to high for me for a mid bass. I like mine to be able to play down to 45hz but cross at 60hz
