was at the dealership here in denver for an oil change on my new to me 01 tacoma. they brought me back to show me some leaks at the steering rack (wet boots, no visible drips) , and some seepage at the valve cover gaskets, oil build up/dirt, no drips either. and obviously suggested they fix them, but said i should be alright for a while.

what is the best bang for the buck on replacement racks (if that time comes)

For the gaskets, is OEM best, or are there equivalent or better options?

Are there any special tools needed to replace both the rack and valve cover gaskets, as i would just rather do it myself and give all the parts a good cleaning while they are off and open up more areas to scrub clean.

I replaced my gaskets with OEM (got a discount for working at a dealership they buy stuff from). Pretty sure others would be just as fine. As for the steering rack, I believe O'Reilly's can order one for you. Could be wrong though. All thats needed for the valve cover gaskets is sockets and screwdrivers. Most likely the same with the rack (might have to replace mine soon so I'll get back on that one lol)
