Where I live in the Deep South, trucks in this configuration are all over the dealer lots as the kind of "base" model. I love the look of them and I'm looking for a pretty stripped down truck to try to get a deal on, and the double cab will come in handy. My concern is the Prerunner quasi-offroad platform (heavier than the 5-lug I'm sure) and the double cab configuration with the 4 cylinder motor. How slow IS it? These trucks are kind of everywhere so I want to assume someone on here has experience with them...? I don't want to tow anything and the off road trails I go on during hunting season and on range day have been managed by my buddy's Hyundai. I just want a practical, reliable vehicle, which this is, and the price tag is right there, but anything that gets to 60 in 10 seconds or is doing 80 on the interstate and the engine is at 4k RPM may be too underpowered. I drive our family's gas-saver, a pt cruiser with almost 200k miles, very often so I can deal with a slow car, but nothing that's downright a bad design. If I wanted something fast I'd get a mustang with 300 hp for 5k less than the truck. Thanks for ya'll's time....

    I got a DCSB with 2.7l
No complaints so far....under powered maybe, but when I need to step on it the truck gives it a go and gets up to speed. i love the city mileage I'm getting.

If you can swing it, get the V6.

The 4 is underpowered (especially on a DCLB) no way around it. And the mileage quotient from what I have read from other 4 cylinder owners is pretty much non existent unless you drive like grandpa.

The dudes that own the 4 cyclinders will tell you its great, but do yourself a favor and test drive one and you'll soon realize why not many people buy the 4 cylinder.

I'll definitely test drive one to make sure, but if I can get one down to about $20k (optimistic I know, but I am paying in cash), then I'll definitely go for it if I can tolerate the fact that it doesn't haul butt.

you won't win any races off the line... but you'll get ~20 mpg.

On the interstate, can you do 75-80mph without the engine screaming or do you have to drive slower?
