I'm not as against this thread as some of you folks are. The guy's looking to build something for his own truck and that's it. Didn't say anything about making them for sale or profit or anything like that.

I think it's kinda cool that someone will take the initiative and try their hand at replicating a quality part for use on their own rig.

Trying to make a profit off of someone else's design is a big no-no, but replicating it for one-off personal use...yeah, not so bad in my eyes.

you can do this with photographs of bumpers or parts, and measuring against known values in the pictures. it is super simple, just need something to measure with and something else...wait a minute...
    it's called math

To answer a few peoples comments and concerns and to the OG poster.

"copying is the biggest form of flattery"

Unfortunately we don't give out our measurements or designs. That's kinda how me and my 6 employees feed their families:) That hasn't stopped people from copying our products in the past and it won't in the future. I'm a bigger fan of someone being "inspired" by a design and building their own with similarities than someone straight copying it. But to each their own. And I wish you luck on building your own.

As far as copy rights, no aftermarket bumpers or most off road parts have a CR on them, that I'm aware of. If that were the case there is a fairly large china built company that would have been sued back to the stone age by now. That being said there are a few "trademarks" out there. A slight loop hole in the law or a friend in the right places will grant you one of these. Then you can go around suing smaller companies designs you stole and TM. That's not the business model we find a lot of pride in.

Our stance has always been "build a better product". If a company makes something and we think we can do better we build a competing product. We get copied a lot, so were kind of use to it. We choose to take the high road and just make ours better or improve it in some way to set us apart.

    Thank you.

...almost there ! Lol :luvya: :p

thought I remember you had to deal with one of those
    nasty trademark arguments ?
I forget the outcome... but seems you've move on
Good to know yer still at it... 10 years older, maybe wiser !? Lol/jk

I copy everything I see, if it's worthy and I can.
I call that being smart and thrifty ;) :D

    ...but only for personal use.
because plagiarism with intent of profit
is dishonorable to say the least.

No Dell, my spelling still sucks I just fake it good on most days. Today I was in a hurry to take care of this and get back in the shop. We are a couple men down and designing and working on new products right now.

And yes I was apart of something, but we are in the business of making off road products not being a bottom feeder:)

Holy hell, people need to calm the %$ck down.
I have absolutely no intention of copying it, nor selling it for profit, nor making even more than one for that matter. I was only looking at certain parts. with base dimensions it'd just be a lot easier, and that was the one I liked the most. So before you all nail me to a cross here just keep that in mind.

I would be a lot more hesitant to ask had I not already emailed and called them going on 4 times now to no avail about purchasing the plate kit or file, so I've resorted to trying other methods.
