I had my driver's side break. I called a dealer and they advised me to bring it in. They knew of the issue, said they'd take pictures and send them to toyota canada and they'd let me know. Fortunately they ok'd the repair and did it for me.
Now i asked about doing the other side at the same time, but the advisor told me not to. He said if i had done it, even though it wasn't broken, they likely wouldn't reimburse when the actual recall comes out as it wasn't broken and didn't "need" to be replaced. So now i sit and wait for it to break lol.

It will. My buddy tried to save money by only replacing one side. Five days after we put the new one on the passenger side, the driver's side broke. So he ended up paying for shipping twice
