Been searching, and googling a lot. Maybe it's my search terms, idk.

I've got a 2003 double cab, 3.4 auto. Truck has a j-shift transfer case, but no front diff, axles, deiveshaft, ect. I'm assuming it was once an ADD diff, haven't looked to find the wiring that I was told was tucked away somewhere.

Anyways, when I drive the truck now, the Transmission Control Relay makes an intermitten (annoying) whine or whirring noise. It sometimes stops if I shift into neutral, but always stops when I shift into 4h when stopped. It then comes back when I start driving again. No 4x4 lights on the dash, the truck has a CEL for evap equipment that's missing, haven't checked if there are any other codes besides those yet.

Bump. What's this relay do, and what could be causing the noise?

Is there any transmission fluid in the transmission ?
Is there any transmission fluid in the transfer case ?
I would start with the basic diagnostic for the transmission and then the transfer case .
You could most likely speed up your diagnostic time by taking your truck to a transmission shop for a free road test .
Are you absolutely positive you have a relay issue ? Usually relays making a clicking sound as they energize and de-energize .
Here is some info that may help
