I have a 2013 with GPS. Dealer told me Toyota updates maps once a year. Cost is $160. Anyone else bumped into this yet ?

160 bones is a lot to spend. I have been thinking out this lately though. I think my maps have not been updated since 2012.

Agreed. I am looking for the same thing for my 2012. My dealer gave me this part number PT725-00123 but they seemed like they were not 100% sure what was going on. This is an SD card update.

    Wow!

I assume this is similar for all in dash Toyota nav units?

I'd been thinking about upgrading mine to a nav with someone's outtake, but after hearing this, I'll stick to my Magellan!!

Roads don't change too much over the years. Sure, they make some modifications here and there, but for the most part they are static. Old map won't hurt. Worst case scenario, the speed limit may change so keep an eye on the signs.

No navigation in my Tacoma, but my wife does in her 4Runner. If someone figures out a way to update for little/no cost, post it up!

I suppose that's true if considered in terms of % of miles of road for the country as a whole.

But for growth areas, not so much. Some of us are in areas that have one thing consistent about our major roads. They change. A lot.

Toss in some new construction and developments (addresses that didn't exist before), redevelopments of old areas (taking out trailer parks and building condos on the land), converting pasture to suburbs, and it doesn't take long to have a confused GPS.

I know first hand what you are talking about. They changed one of the major highway intersections in the Dallas/Fort Worth area recently, and my GPS is about 4 years old. It freaks out every time I drive through there. Also, the area has seen huge growth recently. Not only are there new roads, but new neighborhoods as well.

However, I think this is the exception to the rule. I-10 from Jax, FL to LAX, CA isn't changing directions anytime soon. Point being, they generally don't build roads as temporary solutions. Once the land is purchased, made suitable for a road, and the road is constructed, that road typically stays there.
