It was time to replace the tires on our 2011 4Runner Limited. It has the 20" rims that only has a few tire offerings due to the odd width. We have always used Sam's Club on the previous 2004 4Runner but they do not carry a tire for the 20" limited models. So I decided to let a local mechanic that I have known for years order the tires. He replaced tires on my 98 Tacoma last year. When I took it late Friday I told him that we had removed the center caps to prevent more scuffing . The dealership that was rotating the tires was not removing the center caps and had already scuffed them from the impact wrench sockets. I also stressed for them to use the inside tape weights. So I assumed he got the picture that we cared about the conditions of the rims. We did not get the truck back until late Saturday after hours. Each of the four rims have long scuff marks at the outer lips where his guys did not protect the edge from the install bar. It looks like it mainly scratched the clear coating. Very noticeable. My wife will take it by Monday for the owner of the shop to review.

I may be able to buff this out with my Dremel buffing wheel and their 421 polishing compound. I saw a Youtube where someone was able to get rim rash out this way and followed up with Mothers Wheel polish. My worry is the future of it given the clear coat is shot in those areas now.

Any tips and suggestions are welcome.:(
