This is the prototype. Final tweaks being made in our weird science laboratory tomorrow.

The basic features of this mount are:

    - It's able to carry bikes completely outside the bed, thus leaving the bed wide open for anything else......mostly redneck hot tubs.
    - Will be able to work with some tonneau covers.
    - May possibly work with a Softopper.
    - Very easy to lift bikes onto the fork mounts.

Shown with KB Voodoo side rail caps, but will work with the factory caps (hence the extra holes in the side for knobs).

Will come complete with all hardware, knobs, fork mount, rear tire retention strap, and of course will be black texture powder coated.

A few mods here and there and counting....
As an avid user of your original bed bars (snowboards, mt bikes, various stuff) i approve this post. Great innovations.

I have no use for it but I like the idea and it looks like a well thought out piece.

I'm in for a set when these are made available, would work perfect for me needing to put 5 bikes in my truck to go to the beach. I hate laying the bikes against each other.

Being a big time mountain biker, it looks like a good solution.

Unfortunately the fork mount option is pretty much a non starter for me. The main bike runs a custom 25mm axle. I'd need a rack similar to this one here 1 up.

For weird science laboratory consideration, having extra water and fuel for backcountry travel is nearly a requirement in parts of New Mexico. On a recent climbing trip one of the trucks ran dry. (Yes they had a full tank from the closest station.) Being able to mount a RotoPax (Gas/Water) or Septer (Water) container would be nice. Concept would be to put a drop down mount behind the rails.

Is a 25mm axle a lot harder to remove than a 15mm? I use a 15mm front thru axle, and it's a snap to pop the wheel off.

Looks pretty promising. But I'm guessing most tonneau cover rail systems would interfere and if that back wheel ever pops out ( a solid retention strap system would help as you said) that could turn ugly if the rear wheel were to hit the pavement while the truck was moving.

I think its pretty awesome the stuff you think up though!

It definitely won't work with all tonneau covers.

For the rear wheel retention strap, I was going to use velcro, but decided on a rubber belt & buckle with a 170 lb breaking strength.

The front bracket, that holds the fork mount, is going to be 1/4" thick, since that one sees 100% of the side to side load.

The bracket in back really only sees the weight of the bike, so it's going to be 1/8" thick.

I'll offer it with a standard fork mount, or without a fork mount in case people have their own.

This was all DoorDing's idea, which means he gets the first one, on the house.

You can always use a standard thru-axle adapter and some spacers to make up the difference to your 25mm custom axle. I've had to do this in the past and was easy and worked well. It also looks like instead of a fork mount system a tray could be mounted on top of the plates.

This is a really cool idea. If it works with snug tops I would def. be interested.

Would it be possible to make this work with a bed rack? I.e. Let the customer drill the holes for mounting?? I have the AP Rack and it has a lot of holes along the rail that I could use for mounting.

There was a little side to side sway when I had it mounted up yesterday. That was with the 3/16" thick prototype. I'm bumping that up to 1/4" to stiffen it up.
