Hi there... just installed and used an ARB locker. It's my first time using one, and I had a question regarding it's operation. When I turn it on using the compressor I installed - it engages just fine. However, the compressor continually comes on occasionally for a few seconds then turns off. Is this normal, or is there a leak in the line? Thanks in advance for the advice!!!

Normal, it should be on/off every 30-45 seconds IIRC.

Edit: If it's happening more frequently you probably have a leak.

that sounds about right... kind of a bummer, I didn't know that would be the case. it just gets kind of annoying having it turn on and off like that. should've stuck with my last rig with the elocker... oh well. thanks again for the answer!

What compressor do you use? And where did you mount it? Mine is under the hood, when I have my music up I don't hear it at all. You could even put it under the bed and I would bet you couldn't hear it operate.

just curious where you had your air locker installed at? I am ordering a 3rd member assembled from ECGS w/ 4.10s & ARB Air Locker. so far.. 4 Wheel Parts have the best quote for install.. $200. Also, what compressor are you using?

I had mine installed a shop in Lake Forest that specializes in Toyotas - they've done a few of them before. It's a shop I and others I know have a long history with and I trust them. It cost me a lot more that $200... I would be concerned if someone was charging me that little for what they did. I had already installed the compressor.

Regarding the noise - it's just a bit annoying. I don't want to have to blast my music when I'm out offroading - in fact I often have it down in those situations. It is what it is... just something I didn't know going in.

FWIW, my compressor will only cycle once every 3 or 4 hours. I'd say take a quick look at all your connections to make sure there isn't a leak.

^Also check the bolt that holds the air res on your compressor. That has gotten loose on mine and slowly leaked...

I spoke with East Coast Gear Supply and they charge around $200 for the install. It costs approx $1500 ($2000 if you dont send your back) for the assembled parts from ECGS and $200 to swap it out. I am going to wait for the compressor install until I get my electrical stuff all sorted out.

I have not actually fired up my compressor and engaged the locker to see...but I feel if it's kicking on every 45 seconds you have a leak somewhere

you have a leak. make up a pot of soapy water and coat the compressor and the air solenoids and any air line connections, plus the connection at the third member itself.

Where it's leaking will blow bubbles.

If that doesn't find it - there's probably a leak inside the third member, and you'll need to remove it and bench test it.

What IDtrucks and bjmoose said. I had a leak in the bulkhead seal (is that the right term) inside my rear diff and had to remove, disassemble and replace it. All the seals are cheap so, if that's the case, you should just replace all of them while you're in there.
