Beware of the loud sound of the MT. It never bother me but most of my passenger hated it. Other than that. The traction is great and how it clean those thick mud off.

There's really no best tire for MPG or for anything. But if you want better MPG then look at the weight of the tire.

Check out the Firestone destination for an inexpensive basic tire that does everything well, including on road. Stay away form the BFG Rugged trail, the only dog made by BFG in the AT line. 4 cylinder, stay with the smaller tire for sure. V6, get the 265..

Dumb question but is it possible to mount and balance a tire without it being on the truck. Just bought new wheels and buying 285 / 75/16 tires but I havent put on my lift yet.

I have a mostly stock '07 TRD OR...
I'm looking to get some Mickey Thompson MTZs, and the recent TRD Pro wheels PTR20-35110-GR. I do not yet have a lift, but wanting to get some decent size tires. I have a few concerns:
    1. Main concern, will 285 MTZs fit the wheels I want with 7.0 size, or will they be too narrow? (the TRD wheels are 17in x 7.0in x 4mm offset)
    2. Can I get 285s without much rubbing issues, trimming some plastic (without a lift), maybe by just adding some Spidertrax?

Or, will I just have to get 265s? If I have to do that, I'll probably just stick with the stock 16in OR wheels and just buy tires only.

And before I get slammed - not getting a lift yet simply due to costs. I don't want to get a cheap spacer kit with bad handling/performance. I REALLY want a Toytec Boss, but I can't afford all of this right now, and really need some decent tires.

Thanks in advance, and sorry if these questions have been answered already

So, as it turns out, I will be getting the Toytec Boss lift after all, probably with some total chaos UCAs :D

Now, back to my main question: I want the TRD Pro wheels PTR20-35110-GR - will 285 Mickey Thompson MTZs fit these wheels, or will the wheels be too narrow??

Just a quick question, I am looking at buying some new tires from a guy they are 285/60R18 will they replace my 265/70R18 without any troubles? I know they are only .2" larger but I was wondering about if they would fit my rims?

    Thanks !!

    BUMP !

Check the specs with the tire manufacturer. They usually list a range of approved wheel widths that the tire would work with.

Also, check your clearance with existing tires from full lock to full lock - if it gets close, the new 285's may rub. Remember to allow for suspension compression.

I'm currently running 33in nitto trail graplers and they are probably going to need replacing in about 5k. Was wondering if any of you guys have ran boggers? Or have you heard any good /bad things about em? Thanks!

Just put on 265/75R16 BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2s. They are gnarly! It's almost a deceptive tires because it looks like a mud terrain with thanks to the sidewall pattern but the ride is so heavenly. I spent a long time pondering the Nitto's and Duratracs but I definitely picked the right one.

    +1 vote for the KO2s.

Toyo Open Country ATII 1500 mile review -

Aside from the nightmare I went through getting these tires (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/review-of-local-tire-dealer.373739/), here are my initial thoughts -

Vehicle - 2013 Taco V6 SR5 Dbl Cab Prerunner. Alloy wheels - stock height - no engine mods other than K&N filter.

Toyo Tire size - 265/70-R16, inflated to 32psi cold. (Replaced Dunlop 245/75=R16 street tires - same pressure).

    90% highway driving (>65mph) - 9% city - 1% hard-pack dirt/shell rock.

Pros - Very good performance on dirt roads and trails, as long as I remember that I'm not in a 4WD; EXCELLENT wet pavement traction, from damp roads to full-on downpour/standing water... very predictable. They plow through standing water with no "pull" to either side. Very impressed, and since I live in S. Florida, where summer days almost always provide severe thunderstorms, this is a major plus.

Consistant, good dry weather manners on pavement. Better handling than the 245's.

The ride is comfortable, with minor bumps absorbed without issue.

Too early to comment on wear, but these tires are rated for 50k miles.

    Cons -

Much noisier than the street dunlops, but not as bad as the 32x11.5x16 BFG AT's I had on my last truck (94 4WD Toy). It's a truck, after all, though, so not a biggie.

I'm now getting about 1/2-2/3 MPG less than the stock tires...according to my Ultragauge. Not thrilled with this, but it's not completely unexpected.

On very wet roads these tires throw up a ton of road spray - virtual white-out conditions directly behind me. Probably pisses people off. Not really my problem - they should back off.

All in all, I'm pleased. But I'd like the mileage to be better... oh well. tradeoffs.

For those of you running the new terra grappler g2s, how do you like them? I am debating between those and the toyo at2s extreme when i get my new set. Both have about the same specs and warranty.

I have the terra grapplers and they were garbage. The toyo's are slightly better but make sure you get the 10 ply. Not the 4 or 6 ply which are drastically cheaper. I'm going with the BF KO2 next.

I didn't have the G2s so I can't say anything about those. But in my opinion once the original Terra's got below 50% tread life they might as well have been slicks.
