My 2nd gen Tacoma is easily one of the best vehicles that I've ever owned and I've owned cars since 1978 so I have a fairly long list of cars and trucks to base this opinion on.

So why do I keep seeing articles like this?

    http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/In-Gear/2015/0424/The-10-worst-reviewed-cars-of-2015

According to this bozo I should be very un-happy with my choice, but I'm not and in 10 years when I am still driving this truck, I'm sure that I still will be happy. Sure, I'd like another gear in my transmission, but why does every writer look at the Tacoma and totally ignore a bullet proof engine and conservative design.

I'm supposed to hate my interior, but I don't and actually am fine with it.

I'm supposed to hate my mileage, but it's not horrible.

I'm supposed to hate how the truck drives and feels on the road, but it's perfectly OK for me.

It just feels like there are too many writers talking too much smack about the Tacoma to not think that there's some kind of incentive out there for them to do so.

    OK... rant over.

The guy writing the article probably never even drove the truck, just going by other reports that he read.
Either way he's a fool and is talking out his ass!

It is simple most of these reviews aren't actually reviewing trucks. They are reviewing cars that look like trucks.

The SUV has been totally emasculated into the archetypal soccer mom vehicle. This has left Dads looking for some vehicle so they can still pretend to be a manly man while accommodating two car seats and a pregnant wife. So they buy trucks, but they really want them to have all the features and the ride of a car or SUV.

In that context most of the typical criticisms of the Tacoma are perfectly valid. It isn't at all like a modern SUV and is very feature poor with a less comfortable ride.

On the other hand, if you want a truck it is quite good at that. There are still plenty of criticisms to level at it compared to some other trucks, but fundamentally most reviews seem to ignore those and focus on the "this truck is a really crappy car" approach to reviewing. Well duh...

It's click bait. You clicked on it and if you don't have ad blockers then they got paid. Simple as that. They don't need to know anything about what they are writing, they just have to drive clicks to the site to generate ad revenue.

I can tell you that while lack luster, the Tacoma is my favorite vehicle I've owned in a long time if not ever. I've only been driving it bit over a year, but I love it.

    And I've owned and driven:
2014 Tacoma TRD Sport (current daily driver and possibly all time favorite)
    2014 Lexus ES300h (wife's and possibly 2nd or 3rd overall)
2012 Corvette Grand Sport (a GREAT car and REALLY fast and handles REALLY well. I was ALWAYS worried about rocks, cops, and door dings. That's gets old after awhile and ends up sitting in the garage too much)
    2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T limited
    2011 Lexus RX350 (wife's and I hated it)
    2010 Camaro SS
2008 Lexus IS250AWD (near the top as well)
    2001 Volvo S60 2.0t fwd
    2007 Toyota Corolla
    2005 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel
    2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel
    2004 Ford F150
    2001 Ford Mustang GT
    2001 Toyota Sonata SE (wife's)
    2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport
    1999 Jeep Cherokee Classic
    1998 Honda Civic
    1996 Jeep Wrangler SE
    1993 Honda Del Sol
    1993 Geo Storm (wife's)
    1988 Toyota Truck SR5
    198? GM truck. 2WD beater
    1985 Mustang GT (No. 1 or 2.)
    1979 Mustang coupe
    1981 Audi 4000

I've also had the pleasure of driving some very nice and expensive cars. I've rented a bunch. And I've driven a bunch of beaters and work vehicles. The Toyota truck in all it's iterations keeps impressing me. It's NOT a Lexus sedan but frankly it drives very well and not just for a truck. Drive a heavy duty, live axle 2500 diesel and you'll know what driving a truck daily is like. Not terrible but the Tacoma is MUCH better day to day and the added fact that it's VERY capable off road too.

He mentioned the new GM trucks. Obviously the Tacoma is going to seem a little dated in comparison.

I test drove the new Colorado. It felt lighter (not as sturdy if that makes any sense) than the Tacoma. However I will say the pick up and power was much nicer than that of the Tacoma. But the interior of the Colorado wasn't that much better.
