In terms of not putting anymore money into it?

I've had my Taco, first one ever, for a year now. I bought it from a friend on the cheap because the clutch needed to be replaced. I did that and some other work totaling about $2000 now.

I now have either a fuel delivery issue or spark plug issue on my hands. I'm not sure if I should stick with it.

It's a 95 DLX extra cab with manual tranny, 2.4 liter and 4 cylinder. It's got 178k miles on it. When not acting up it's a great truck. I love it. It's me.

I will not get much for it if I sell. I've put in some time and money that I would hate to see go to waste. I recently got historic plates on it which in my states exempts me from any type of emission inspection so that was a huge plus.

I literally plan to drive mine until the wheels come off. At that point I will leave it on the side of the road with the key and pink slip in it.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Never, haven't had a problem with it. Going to change the timing belt and water pump this summer, good to go for another 90k miles! Putting new tires on her also.

20 years or older, me thinks.

I have 296K miles on mine, I just keep fixing it. I do plan on adding another Tacoma this fall though...but keeping the old 1st gen around. Might even get another 1st gen and save myself $20K+....

Seems like the 1st gens in the condition I want are around $10K....the $20K I save will keep both running for a loooong time.

In Maryland if a vehicle is 20yo or older no inspection or emission testing is required, proof of insurance is all you need. My godson just put a historic tag on his 95 KLR650 enduro bike, just tag and go. Not sure what state the OP is in.

for me, I just got there. all because of minor shit I can certainly live with by why do that when there are better options out there so im just going to wait for a good deal and jump on it when I find it then sell mine.

im just sick and tired of trying to fix the aggravating too rough idle and I've changed cleaned and tested all there is to try so I have just realized its never going to idle correctly.

add to that the 2.4 four cylinder mine has is pretty weak for my needs but still does ok, however now that the clear coat is peeling off the cab and doors from a previous owners crappy clear coat paint job after a fender bender, I see it as a sign its time to go buy a 6 cylinder taco and start over with a smooth idle engine that has the towing power I need.

    just book value

its a great truck and I love it but the little things all add up that its just not the best truck for my needs

plus the 14" tires are limited in the brand choices that you can buy and my favorite Michelins don't make truck version tires in the 14" size

im definitely buying another first gen taco for sure, I just need the v6 power

I just sold my stealth was looking at wrx's but most were abused.. Also was checking into rx8s but they are a high matinence motor and most people more then likely don't maintain them properly... I was also flirting with replacing it with a lowered 2wd Tacoma 4 banger for better mileage then I get with my lifted Tacoma or my lifted full size gmc

when the frame becomes not structurally sound and you have run out of welding rods trying to patch it.

My dad instilled a "parts or payment" mentality in me when I got my first vehicle and complained about having to put money into it. As a teenager, coming up with $600 for a repair was pretty much impossible, but dad pointed out that paying 3 or 4 hundred a month in car payments is way more. So I started making car payments to myself. As an adult, I put a small chunk of money aside for my truck every time I get paid. I would only give up on it if it was completely totaled in an accident. Spending hundreds in preventative maintenance will save you thousands in unexpected repairs.

I bought my first brand new vehicle in 2000'. A Tacoma, and I was 35 years old. I ran beaters to that point, fixing them as I went. New car payments really suck.
