So wife says the ac isn't working. Sure enough it is low. (not empty like there is a leak) a few # later and I think we should be back in business. But we are not. like 40 on the low side ~200 in the high side but we are still not getting cold air in the cabin. Suggestions? Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Spencer

Welcome to TW! You might have to have the system vacuumed, then charged.

What was ambient at the time of your test?

Not sure what a 'few #' means? These are very low capacity systems. Were you reading the pressures during the fill?

    Does the compressor cycle?

Is there a significant temp split (by feel) of the high and low lines under hood ? (as in hot and cold)

what do you mean by low? what were the readings and at what rpm were the readings taken?

and how do you know what the high side reading is? the high side only gets around 135 lbs so if you have 200 you need to remove that Freon because you are about to blow out the pop off pressure relief valve

do you have any experience charging a/c units and if so what?

by # do you mean cans? if so is it the 12oz cans or the big cans?

too much Freon keeps it from cooling just as much as not enough (but too much can damage the system) so you need to determine if there is a blockage problem or just has leaked and needs topping off.

if you don't have trained experience with a/c systems then you need to take it to a trained professional to determine where the blockage is in the system and what needs to be done to fix it. then if you feel inclined you can follow his advice and fix it yourself but its best to let him do it all
