Hey guys, has anyone found a T-Nut solution that works with Yakima tracks? T-nut dimensions are sometimes challenging to pin down. The length is often the only dimension provided.

    2015-04-17 14.27.29.jpg
I ordered the prescribed 15-series economy t-nuts for my Yakima tracks and they are too small.
Here you can see the difference between the Yakima plus-nut and the 15-series economy t-nut. The Yakima stock plus-nut width is about 20mm (about 3/4 inches).

I have been using the 15 series on yakima and thule tracks with no problem. The key is to make sure you stagger them and let them twist inside the tracks.

To better explain, if you look at one of the mounting tabs on my topracs, you have two bolts and 2 tnuts going into the tracks. If you were installing on the passenger side of the vehicle it would go as follows:

The front tnut should have the hole under the mounting tab with the large portion facing towards the front of the vehicle as you have shown in the picture. When you tighten the bolt clockwise the tnut will twist inside the track till it hits the passenger side of the track. The the rear tnut should be facing the rear of the vehicle so that when you tighten the bolt, it spins clockwise until it contacts the drivers side of the of the track. This way each mounting tab is locked into place.

Thule uses a similar option and I though yakima was the same. I had never seen the rectangular nut you are showing above.

Ahh, so that way the 15-series can thereby work as a drop-in nut rather than a slide-in nut.

Yep. Yakima's nut is arguably more secure, but like i mentioned I was only familiar with the type of nut shown below. 15 series tnuts are much better than those.

Zach do you have stickers to give out or sell? I got a new rifle case mounted up and it's screaming for some stickers. I would like to get 2 or 3 of them from you if you have them.

My roof rack should be here Friday, looks like I will have a little time Saturday to try and mount it. Anyone have a rough estimate on how long it took them?

Spent 1/2 day this past weekend. I also was in no hurry and working on other things around the house.

Anybody have a fancy way of keeping the t-nuts not being used from rattling while going down the road? :annoyed: I'm about to stuff a shop rag up there.

Hmmm that's probably my best bet. Thanks, overlooked the simplest fix.

Mine do it on occasion. So times I can go months with no issues. Then all the sudden they rattle. Stick a bolt in to keep it tight.

Headed out to go to work this morning and discovered that someone had removed three of my crossbars and made off with my Pelican case, rotopax mount, and matrix mounts. Fuck. I guess they thought I might actually be storing a long gun in there like an idiot. I'll be contacting you soon Zach to see about replacement HD bars.

I had mine adjusted perfectly for my needs, so I'm thinking I might drill out the allen sockets.
