Anyone run 14v/16v battery's?

    I can see the desire and reasoning behind wanting to go with the 14 or 16 volt batteries for car stereo application. The concern I have would be with how the higher voltage (mainly the 16 volt) would adversely affect the other, sensitive electronics in the vehicle. Many components are VERY voltage sensitive.

    If i can keep the voltage up im breaking the 1500mark but battery reserve quickly drains... The 3" voice coil does get quite hot and i can smell it every now and then but visually i see no signs of overheating.

    Question. How many amps is stock alternator?

    Unless your building a full on spl rig i wouldnt go through the trouble of adding/maintaining these batterys for a couple hundred watts..maybe

    I would keep a 12v for primary and then would have my alt charge the 14/16v battery or battery's and xs power makes these b6415c7adf94198e0f088fb0e091b3b8_5531e6fe1cdebcf4728fbe52eaf253a1552e4f89.jpg which then I will be able to lower voltage to maintain my 12v primary... This is only if I go 3-5k rms... Emf makes some supped up subs... Lol the ermagurd

    Hmm... sweet. Have you metered it? I have a sundown x-15 and saz-1500 I'm looking to put in my truck in a couple weeks.

    Ask bamatoy, but I believe it's like 130 total? He also does high output alternators at a great price.

    To my knowledge, most spl guys run a 16v system separate from the trucks 12 volt system because it's easier. Another way is a set down to the trucks components on the 16v system.

    Your messing with my ideal plan of breaking 150db with one 10.... Seeing what your 15 does running the same power I am is really making me wanna spend the extra 50 bucks to get the aa mayhem 15-18 lol

    Stock alt is weak not even close to 130 if I remember correctly I think it's between 70-95 amp

    Depends on the model of the truck. If you have a 2nd gen with tow package, or off-road package then the alternator is a 130A unit. If you have a 1st gen then the stock alternators are a bit smaller. However I sell alternators for 1st and 2nd gen Tacomas. I have 130A, 200A, and 250A units that I have available for 27, 3.4, or 4.0 engines.

    I had a stock built up to 160 but not as good as bamas mine falls off when at idle... Wish I knew about yours when I was having mine built j would have a 200 right now in my truck instead of a improperly built one

    Idk your exact plans, but I'd recommend the 250 amp. It's not much more and a bit more amps.

    Essentially to be running over 3k rms... And I haven't seen a alt that will do more than 270... Dc power but for what they charge if bamas rebuilds are as good as stated why would I pay that much more for a dc

    Have you contacted mechman? I thought they did 300... but idk for sure. That may have been for my old vehicle. Have you thought of running dual alts? Idk much about how that works though.

    Post 31 was me asking bama if he sells dual alt brackets... Just found a dual battery setup by Columbia overland even has a radiator overflow relocation bracket on it

    Maybe my understanding of charging systems is wrong, but if you have a 16 volt battery, and the alternator's regulator is only set up to output +/- 14 volts, won't the battery always be undercharged? I thought that you had charge with at least 1-2 volts over the battery capacity, regardless of amp output. Are you planning to mod the regulator too?

    I do not have dual alternator brackets. My alternators are designed to be a replacement unit. Since I am not a fabricator, I wouldn't know the best route for dual brackets.
