I run a ratchet strap from the ring in the floor at the tailgate, to a ring mounted to the cargo rail on the front side (with an extra hook to slide the strap through) and to another on the back side to carry gas cans and whatever. Works for anything that would fit in a box at least as high as the cargo rail. Cheap and simple.

I have to find my camera and clean up the truck a bit. Can't let anyone see how dirty it gets. :)

I would go through the handle closest to the tailgate around the bottle and out the other handle straight across from the first handle and then to the d ring. That way you're securing bottle and milk crate instead of just bottle.

    ... and this.

Then I use this and a ratchet strap around the crate.

A consideration is what could happen in an accident. So carrying the tank at the rear of the bed, or even the side, has more risk of hit and rupture than if it were at the middle of the front of the bed.

Put in in a milk crate and secure it in the crate. Secure the crate in the bed. If you want to cook on the tailgate, buy a hose long enough to allow that. Good thing about that is even out of truck in a campsite, it lets the tank sit a safer distance from the stove.

Hey Billy, I'm going to take a look at the front of the bed to see where can I attach the milk crate. I still have 2 D rings that I can probably use. I'll check it out this afternoon. Thanks for the heads up!!!

LOL ummmmm yeah? For me it is. And I got the propane camp fire for the cold nights.

In a typical install, for an RV or other van style vehicle. They are for Stoves, ac, hot water, and other things.

The size I went with is not that big compared to a 20# tank.

    The 20# tank is 4.7gal- 5gal propane
this one is 7.9gal - so I have a 33.2# tank. Basically slightly larger than a forklift tank.

1 gallon of propane weighs 4.2 pounds.

    so

    33.2
    /4.2
    7.904

they have a 5.5 on there too. My bed space it too precious with a Short Bed and the 6 of us. Every square inch has to count.

When we are out, I am cooking for the 6 of us 3 times a day or more. Some of the places we plan on traveling are no camp fire places. If theres no knob, its forbidden. If theres more than one vehicle, like there normal is when we are out. Chances are that they are using my gear anyways. So add another 4 people to that figure and we are @ 10 people 3 times or more a day.

I am the most prepared out of the group of people I camp and fish with. they are always forgetting something. Having it bolted down, makes it harder to forget.

one last little thing for the masses. If you aren't using the spare tire area, they make a spare tire gas tank.

Once toyota does my frame, I am cutting out the spare tire area and putting braces across the bed area under the frame. Then doing a custom water tank, mounting the propane, and the Air tank all right in line with each other.

Total Chaos did some nice frame work. I want to do basically the same thing. Looks like they took some square/ rectangle stock. Cut to size, then cut notches out of the ends so it fit in the frame. Finally cut holes and put round stock in there as wire channels. Of course, welded it all up.
