It was explained to me that because Toyota is now replacing springs with the frames that they simply do not have enough supply to replace them all.

I would question that just as you are. The only avenue that would be possible is to have a shop document that your springs are in fact unsafe. Have that noted on the bill and the corrective measures taken: remove and replace rear springs.

I can relate to your frustration with the quality issues with our frame and springs. I try and look at things with the glass half full. There are too many good things about this truck to let the few bad ones ruin my day. Without getting into detail about the frame in this thread, is it pathetic that after all these years it still isn't right? Of course, without a doubt. Is it sad that the rear springs are junk? Yes, most 1/2 ton springs these days are. They appeal to the masses who want a plush ride and don't really need a truck. They just want a truck because it's cool. Have you seen the new Colorado commercials? I won't lie to you, I was furious when one of my rear springs broke off and slid towards the gas tank. After a few choice words I said to myself, there are never any problems, only solutions. I came on here, researched suspension options and decided on all new leaf packs.

Even if the recall was available back a couple years ago when it happened to me, I wouldn't have waited for the same sub-par product. I've never been happier with my truck in the way it rides and performs while doing work. The nice thing is that there is a site like this for enthusiasts. Just by joining and reading you separate yourself from the other guy that is just "gas and go". He will wait for whatever Toyota dishes out and be satisfied. Us on the other hand represent a small niche of vehicle owners who have chosen to educate ourselves on the vehicles we drive. Do yourself a favour and upgrade your suspension, you'll never look back.

Lastly, I do agree with you about the quality. It should have been done right the first time, and yes we did pay for it. I'm sure most, if not every manufacturer has put out vehicles that have needed a safety recall and that's unfortunate. It's all about dollars and cents to them. They use us, the consumers as "testers" and fix issues as they arise. Writing letters is a good idea and if enough do, it will eventually make an impact. However, leave it at that, don't stress and enjoy life!

:sorry: Just doing my civic duty. Sometimes the truth hurts. ;) lol!!

I've dealt with this for 25+ years. This is nothing new to me. My last truck; a 1987 22R.
(264,000 miles) I spent 2 weeks cutting, grinding, fitting, forming, wrapping and welding the frame back together. Much like connect the dots, the Swiss cheese version.
Thanks to my talents, I ran that truck for 5 more years. Inspected.

I feel for the folks who pump out hard earned cash only to find rust and rot. And don't have the ability or means to remedy the situation, by and for themselves.:annoyed:

But this leaf spring issue is insane. If you look at the pic I posted with the 3 cracked leafs. I have never seen anything so ridiculous in my life.
I feel your pain and I feel the best course of action is not letters and correspondence, pick up a wrench and take matters into your own hands.

    Stock for now...
I'm at the same point - looking for someone to bash on the head over this issue and others . I bought a truck to use it as a truck , not a car . At this point , I can't haul anything much over a bag of dog food , and that's total bs no matter how you look at it . Patience ? Kiss my arse , I paid for a vehicle to do the work it was designed for , now someone owes me a proper vehicle or fix the existing one and quick - not send out letters and then take their time to save money . Our society has accepted the "put up and shut up" ideal and this is the result - corporations that not only don't care but get away with laws not being pushed to make things right . Now , yesterday , twice the accelerator pedal refused to send input to the ecm to accelerate the engine - think they will fix that on an '08 with low miles ? I not only doubt it , but would also expect a huge line of bs from them including their rotten dealer network . I've researched sale value on it and am seriously considering getting something else but also don't want to push a piece of crap onto some unsuspecting slob , either . I've ran into several people at gas stations asking about all the issues with these trucks since they had an interest in buying either a used or new one - same story all the time , "are they really that bad" .
So, what does a guy tell them ?
