So I JUST bought an 07 Tacoma, double cab, 4x4 and I LOVE IT.

Before I bough it I had it checked by an independent mechanic with a good (yelp) reputation and he said it really seemed in great shape. Only 63,000 miles.

However, in a few days of driving it I have noticed the rear suspension doe make some noise when going over speed bumps or big dips. I did a quick search and came up with this article about squeaky leaf springs in exactly the model of Tacoma I have. It seems to describe my issue precisely. http://www.tacomahq.com/1203/tacoma-squeaky-leaf-spring-tsb/

So my question is; is this really a problem? If I'm willing to live with the sound do I really need to do anything at all? Or is there good reason to do something about it?

I jacked up my truck, sprayed a bunch of white lithium grease, put the truck down and no squeaks. They come back after a while (couple weeks) but I've got more grease. WD40 sells an aresol white lithium grease, makes it easy to get between leafs.

I had to have a replacement pad installed into my leafs about 2 years after I bought the truck. The squeaking noise was irritating.

I shoved a tube from a bike tire around the friction pad, cut a hole for the fitting to slip into the leaf and called it a day. No squeaking here!

Yeah as these guys said they could be quieted with grease and/or replacing the pads. That being said the squeak isn't a problem other than the irritating sound, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The sorta sub-par performance/sagging of the leafs in some of the later models is a completely different story and there are a good deal of aftermarket options if you end up deciding to go that route.
