The Story: I lucked out big time and found a 3.4L replacement engine with only 20k miles on it for my Father in laws Taco. His engine overheated and suffered a pretty big failure that left the whole engine compartment rust colored and crispy. Any ways....this replacement engine looks like BRAND NEW. A trip back in time for him when everything was new and shiny.

The Problem: It looks like the donor might have been a 2wd Automatic and ours is a 4wd automatic. Looks like a different number of connectors going to the transmission/transfer case as one might suspect. Our old harness is ......eh, ok/marginal but the new one is like brand new. It would be a shame not to use it.

The Question: Can I use the 2wd harness on our 4wd by pulling just what I need from the old harness? Has anyone ever picked through their harness to do this? Any pointers? Should I just cleanup and retape the original?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm completely new to the Taco World but I do have 25 years of shade tree mechanic exp.
