They are not DOT approved like most aftermarket products you add to your vehicles. Some states like California say they are illegal but I have yet to hear a customer have any issues with them. I live in California and both my wife and I have them on our vehicles with no issues. Even if you purchase a projector housing from eBay the chances are it's not DOT approved either.

There isn't a current group buy going on right now but if you use coupon code "TACOWORLD" when ordering from my site www.slimshidxenonsource.com you will get free shipping. :)

I will start a group buy if I get more interest in one. :)

Slimcubby...I need your help once again.

My passenger side headlight went out last week. 09'Tacoma PreRunner. I ordered a new replacement bulb, HID H4-4300k hi/lo,...thinking it was simply the bulb going out.

Removed and replaced the bulb this afternoon and it's still out. Checked the fuses under the hood and they were ok.

All connections ok. Driver side bulb working fine. Please kindly help. Not quite sure why the passenger bulb went out to begin with...then replacing the bulb did not work. Thank you in advance for those that can provide assistance.

did u put the passenger bulb into the dirvers side, and vise versa?

Its possible that the ballast is bad instead

I'm feeling stupid again...did not realize the bulbs were specific to each side. Nothing inside the box or on the bulbs themselves showing one is for the driver side and the other for the passenger side. I will remove and install the "other" new replacement bulb.

If that doesn't work...I'll purchase a new ballast for the passenger side and replace that and see. Thank you!

Switched the bulbs...perhaps the bulbs were specific to each side, one being for the driver side and one for the passenger side.......nope, it didn't work.

I removed the passenger side ballast and will order one tonight.

    Anyone else have any idea?

Note: Just a recap. Passenger side HID H4 4300 hi/lo bulb went out last week. Driver side headlight still works. Fuse ok. Purchased replacement bulb and still not working. Thanks guys.

    Thank you once again.

Got the new replacement ballast (Amazon: Innovited 35w, 12v, Slim type) in the mail yesterday. Installed it this morning and success...the passenger headlight works. :)

Lesson learned: If replacing the bulb doesn't work, replace the ballast. Note: The original ballast was purchased from carID, Notto SE HID kit, and lasted approximately 3 years.

    Slim,

I bought this kit a while ago - group buy - but just got around to installing it today. <g>

First: what happens if the metal bulb shield is removed from the HID bulbs?

I read the printed instructions which said to remove the shields. The instruction pictures (drawings) showed the bulbs being installed without the shields. The shields were a genuine bastard to get off too. <g>

But I came here looking for some troubleshooting ideas - because one of my new lights doesn't work - and see that the shields are supposed to be left it place! <g>

Is there any way to troubleshoot the HID bulbs? Resistance readings or anything?

    PHM

I consider the beam pattern a cop magnet, but I'd be interested in sticking something like this in projectors in the position normally occupied by the fog light. Has anybody played with using projector retrofits?

I suppose it depends where you live. I've been using Slim's kit in my same truck for around 6 years (just replaced bulbs last year) and never failed a state inspection in NH, or now in Maine. If it was a real problem, I think I would have been told by now. No, I don't use the purple hue lights, I think mine are around 5, maybe 6K.

Ditto. Have had them in the wife's car as well as mine for many years now with no issues and I live in California where the wind blowing is illegal. :)

Just discovered this site and these lights look like a great upgrade. Just curious, any thoughts on how they compare to LED's in terms of function and power requirements?

I just installed some HIDs in my 2014 Reg Cab... Why are my lights coming on even with the switch off? They come one when the truck is started and running. The light switch is TOTALLY off... no DRLs, nothing. When I shut the truck off, the lights shut off. What is going on??? The company, retro-solutions, says that it's my truck and that the DRLs are still automatic with the switch OFF. I advised them that even if, the DRLs are in my parking lights, NOT my headlights. PLEASE HELP!

I would verify the connections on your wiring harness. It sounds to me like there is a cross between wires. Do they stay on when you turn lights to parking lights/full on? Also, is this my HID kit or another manufacturer?

Welcome to the site. :) from what I have heard LED run hotter and aren't as bright in lumens. Anyone else here have experiences with the both to compare?
