I just brought my 2006 Taco in with 215K miles for a broken leaf spring. Dealer replaced them at no cost with the 4 leaf. What a difference not riding on the bump stops.

While I was under the truck I noticed the undercoating that they sprayed on last year as part of the frame recall was barely there and most of it had peeled off. They took photos as they had "never seen this before". I got the call back saying that the would only undercoat once and that I had to open up a case with Toyota.

Anyone else seen my unique case ?

I noticed this on my truck the other day too. 2006 DC Prerunner Sport. Had the coating put on last May (I'm in Massachusetts). I thought the coating was really greasy and tar like and was actually annoyed that it wasn't dry to the touch even after like 6 months... Well it finally dried because it's flaking the f%$k off. It's say about 50% is left on there.

Good to know they will only undercoat once... that means we gotta raise some hell. I'll call the dealer soon.

    Good luck, keep us updated!!

Must be too cold here for their undercoating.

Under coating that drys to the touch is useless if it isn't factory installed before contaminants get on the frame. No one that does these under coatings does a good enough job of proration. The only thing that works is one that stays soft and stays attached cutting off oxygen. There are two ways of protecting your frame once it ages; Paint on grease or petroleum based material like it then replace as needed, or spray oil on the frame yearly. I do the latter and have had 10 to 15 year old toyota truck frames that were rust free where I treated and repeated yearly as needed. I live in a heavily salted area where every thing rusts. This WORKS and is the only thing that does. After market spray on rust coatings that depends on perfect prep is designed to fail.

If you have not been subjected to yearly assaults of snow, ice and salt, probably anything will work. Otherwise, you need to protect it yearly. Otherwise, this undercoating actually accelerates rust when not put on perfectly. It sounds like yours was not.

Well if everybody sprayed their cars with oil, we would have to import drinking water from Saudi Arabia.

Toyota has made their decision and they will not re-do the undercoating as they say that peeling off after 9 months is part of "normal wear and tear".

Contemplating my steps with NTSB and local news outlets.

Any advice from someone who has gone through this is appreciated.
