Hand Throttle or Cruise Control Install??

I have been scouring the threads on hand throttles with bicycle shifters and cables and a few on installing cruise control but nothing that really pertained to the first gen 4cyl manual trucks, particularly 2004 Base Model, 2.7L manual.

I do about 12 hours round trip highway driving once a month and my wallet and I have grown tired of my lead foot so I think I would like to look into doing something for cruise control. I have read that some trucks have all the wiring and such for cruise control and all I need is the controls and something special for the manual trans. If the cruise control route doesn't cost more than $200-300 +/-, I'm fine with that.

However, I am intrigued by the hand throttle idea. I must confess that I don't think the hand throttle is the safest to use for a cruise control mechanism, running highway speed and the possibility of running into traffic unexpectedly seems risky. I know I could just clutch and brake and at worst, the engine revs and I turn the hand throttle down but it still seems a bit unsafe to me.

My question is, does anyone have any advice on how I would go about finding the information and parts I would need to install cruise control modules and whatever the part is for the manual trans? Or does anyone have any experience with using the hand throttle as a cruise control? Any advice or comment is welcome.
