hi eveeryoe i have a strange squeak that has started on saturday. i have a 2010 v6 access cab standard tacoma sport. i was driving it bacwards and noticed a squeaking oie when backing up. so my first assumptin was ujoint as i have hear that noise from a ujoint before. so i checked that out and greased tem as well and found absolutely nothing, they were tight no play in them at all. the onlyplay was in the carrier bearing hlding the drive saft but that only had a little side play nothing majr. here s the next thing it ony seem to do it in reverse with clutch pedal out if i push it in and let it role it goes away so that made me think maybe its the clutch but hw could it be if it only does it on the reverse side. anyone ever encounter this

While going in reverse, press the brakes lightly ....and see if the squeak stops.

From what I've known - the rear brakes adjust when in reverse. So - you could go in reverse faster and hit the brakes harder to force them to adjust (more or less) and see if the squeaks go away.

Did all four caps of every u-joint (of the rear 2pc shaft) purge grease? If unsure, grease it again, and check. If even 1 cap does not purge, it's likely still the culprit, even though you can't feel play in it.

Don't rule out that carrier bearing. If you can, get a second person to walk along the side of the truck on each side and narrow down where(front to rear) it seems to be coming from.

I'd stop throwing oil/grease at it until it's located and then try a quick fix while knowing where the source is and having a replacement part on hand rather than waiting for failure to know for sure

    I too have this.
It started about week ago. (we have had tons of rain over the last month or so. Might be related.?)

It only happens while backing up and regardless of brakes applied, coasting or in gear.

Strange thing is that it only does it when the truck has been sitting for a while.

Had the wife try to determine where it was coming from... definitely from the front and seemingly from both sides. Coasting or in reverse and brakes or no brakes

All most all of your driving is forward so when you reverse the drive shaft is going the other way that is why U joints make noises when they are dry or junk going backwards chances are it will have no play because it's full of rust and jamb rollers. You can try a small screw driver to pry back the seals if there is even the slightest rust they are junk and generally it will the one closest the the diff.

Well you can either drop the drive shaft and check it or wait until it falls out by it's self.
