After cleaning, do you notice any different engine behavior on a cold start?

I lost maybe an ounce of coolant when disconnecting the coolant lines from the throttle body. The throttle body is located high up compared to the rest of the cooling system, and if this service is done cold there will be no pressure in the system... in fact I think there would be a very mild vacuum since the system is designed to draw in whatever is needed from the overflow bottle as it cools down.

Sorry to wake up the thread. I removed my MAF sensor for cleaning today, and it doesn't look anything like the pictures I've seen on TW. Here is what it looks like.
    IMG_2312.jpg IMG_2312.jpg IMG_2313.jpg

Do I spray the MAF cleaner on the metal surface only, on the wires inside only, both? Looks pretty darn clean for 43k miles.
    Thanks for any help!!

    Just like mine.

Spray the body and all ports in the airflow. I use Electrical Cleaner works well and can be sprayed in the internals with no problem at all.

Not a problem. I like quick drying cleaners.

I have never cleaned the MAF on any toyota that I have ever owned, however I do run a bottle of castle fire ball plus fuel system cleaner every oil change. I love this stuff and really swear by it.

Honestly if you call an injector shop they will tell you your not doing much with the additives you dump in the tank.

The MAF and throttle body cleaning is something to do once every year or 2 depending on drive cycle and how you drive. I had to replace mine due to crud getting in the element and not being able to blow it out.

If anyone is interested, the part number for the non-reusable TB gasket is 222710C021. I didn't see it posted anywhere.

MAFs have their own cleaner for a reason, please do not substitute other cleaners.

After cleaning the TB on the 2.7, do you have to have the computer relearn the idle air volumes like on the Nissan 4.0?

IDK about the TB, I would expect some sort of learning after the MAF cleaning

After doing the above on my 2009 2.7L (2tr-fe) as well as a new cylinder head and cylinder head gasket I have some updates.

I just called the local dealership and talked to my buddy who is the trained one for the Tacoma's and tundra's. He said when I reconnect the battery (bc it's been d/c for about 72hrs) to hold my foot on the floor with a WIDE OPEN THROTTLE before I turn thr key on. Did that and held it for 10 seconds. Turned truck off and repeated 3 or 4 times. Then I checked it with a Autel scan tool to verify the wide open throttle was relearned.

He told me the truck after a dead battery (which resets the ECM) takes about 30miles of driving to adjust to thr crappy sensors the system has. After about 80 miles it seems to idle MUCH BETTER and doesn't quit at a red light like it did 2 times within the first 10 miles.

Hope this information helps someone else in the same situation as me

Thanks you! I don't suppose your buddy said if this "WOT before ignition on" procedure works with all 2nd gen 2.7s, or just your 2009... or 2009 and forward model years?

Great writeup! I cleaned my TB this weekend and it seems to idle smoother now right at 750 rpm's.
