Yeah who knows what the DEF system would do....though RAM EcoDiesel is hitting high 20's. Buddy of mine has a 2WD he says he is getting over 30 hwy...though, he isn't impressed with the build quality...utter shit, really. Last I heard he was going to trade in on Ford.

Yeah...no way a Hilux would do that on US gallons...high 20's wouldn't be unheard of though....(using the Ram Eco as a measuring stick)

Yup, I have no doubt high 20's is where a small Diesel could end up. Dodge build quality is crap. If you read a few Ecodiesel IRL reviews from normal people you'd never want one in the driveway. You can tell your buddy to go to an F150. We run tons of trucks at work and haven't had nearly as many issues as we've had with Dodge in general.

    I thought the same thing!
What's wrong with mobile homes, @BlueT?
I agree the front looks like an suv and the rest looks like a Chevy

The front has that shark snout, belongs in the water. The 3rd gen Tacoma has a ugly grille but at least the front end looks good IMO.

That thing is hideous. Looks like a Colorado with Camry head lights.

I'm fully aware of the trucks known capability but that doesn't look like a truck. I hate to say it but I'd take the 2016 Tacoma anyday.

Everyone loves hilux or wants what they have not seen or lived with. I lived and breath hilux as I lived in countries where they were driven. To us they were nothing special and we're made basic to handle rough terrain in third world countries etc. The tacoma is well loved overseas due to its aesthetics. Diesel is not ideal for off roading due to glow plug when you are really remote. They are same in most cases by I will take a tacoma over a hilux. Consider the tacoma a luxury compare to hilux. .....truck me ..Toyota loves making money. They would have brought the hilux here if it were reasonable. Obviously it's not.....

Looks like a Camry with pickup bed. Like the old ElCamino.

    Call it an ElCamrino.

So what you're saying is the HiLux is actually for people that use their trucks as trucks... ;)

Not quite understanding the glowplug=bad for off-road though.

Glow plugs are just one more thing to go wrong I guess. I know they change them quite often on Ford Diesels here but honestly I don't know why.

As I've said many times on this forum, trucks like the Hilux are basically the rest of the worlds 1/2 ton. They won't ever come here because our roads are large enough for similarly priced half tons with more powerful engines. Those engines burn cheap gas, well cheaper than most of the rest of the world pays for any fuel by the mile. A small midsized truck with near half ton load capacities and a harsher ride (tough suspension on lighter truck) isn't going to sell well here when people can go bigger for the same money. I know that kills some guys on here that want something like the first generation Tundra back in North America, but there's a reason even Toyota went to a larger truck. Bigger sells here. Maybe one day that'll change, but right now there's no reason for it to change when with slight tweaks you could get nearly the same mileage out of most half tons as you do the slightly smaller 1/4 ton trucks with the better ride and load handling experience of a half ton.

If gas gets over $7 a gallon in the USA then most people who drive trucks will switch to cars. Our roads will look like Europes.

No more complex than today's gassers...still don't understand Tacomamba's statement. Why they would be bad for offroad...since damn near the rest of the world uses diesel.

    Because 'Murica... ;) :D

You can count me in for one of those guys that just wants a basic small no frills work truck.

Gimme one of these. Closest thing I can get is a Tacoma with the B Max Grade package.

There's nothing to say the 7GR won't be a good motor :notsure:

The 1GR in the Hilux is sort of the deluxe engine. Unlike here most trucks come with the very base model diesel, if there are two options on the diesel. I can see why they would go with it for that truck because it'll likely have more down low than the 7GR.
