Along that line of thinking....I'd say it was the Honda 1800 cc in my GL1800. I took it on the Atlanta speed way. That there were fun.

For me there is only one choice. I owned a 1968 Hemi Roadrunner that came through Grand Spalding Dodge in Chicago. It was NOT the usual "street hemi" but one Mr. Norm had graced with his "touch". Whole car shook at idle. First ever trip down a drag strip with some borrowed 8" slicks netted a 12.7 @ 112 or so with a 3 speed torqueflite transmission and a 4.10 Dana rear end.

It had a sound like no other car of the era. Cop pulled me over one night (to-be wife was driving) and said something like this: "I don't know how fast you were going, but keep it down, it sounded like the thing was about to suck the entire hood in through the carb." (It had two carbs of course, minimal silencing.) My wife-to-be liked to do the "beep beep" and stomp it routine. :) I pointed out she was going to be buying two tires if she didn't ease off of that.

I've owned and worked on a zillion engines since, but nothing will ever top that engine for me. A friend owned a 1967 L88 vette. He saw a LOT of my tail lights. :) It pissed him beyond belief as that roadrunner was a sub-$3000 car compared to his MUCH more expensive Vette.

Any datsun/nissan L series. L16,18,20,20b,24,26,28! Bullet proof, just like the cars. Easy to work on, interchangeable parts, and could make decent amounts of power. Oh, and MY 5vzfe

    My 3 alltime favorites are
    1. the 430-4v8 in my dad's '67 Electra when I was a kid. 365hp and 480lbs torque. He was the king of onramps as I recall.
    2. the 413-4 in my 1st car Chrysler 300. 340hp and I think 470lbs torque. Repeatedly killed my buddy's 383 Roadrunner in races because he couldn't accept it:D
    3. the 1970 455-4 in my '73 Delta 88. 390hp and about 500lbs torque. I bought this car from a junkyard in Half Moon Bay, Ca. where my engine-swapping buddy helped me swap this motor in along with a rebuilt Trbo-400 tranny. WHat a sleeper. Pissed off this buddy when I won a race up a steep street to my house after the swap over his GTO 400-4
    DISCLAMER: kids, don't race.

you thought the 990 sounded good.... the 1290 in the new duke... good lord amazing. And the fact when i got on one i was lugging it in 4th and rolled on the throttle (no blip of the clutch) and the front tire came off the ground.

But for me in the motorcycle world its always been the CBX's inline 6

Car world.... eh never been a big car guy.

I'll agree that Hemi must have sounded amazing, but I gotta bust your balls a little on the sub-$3000.

Sure a base 68 Roadrunner was sub-$3000 but add the Hemi, 4:10 sure-grip, and torqueflite and no other options and that's $4000+.

I've heard this. To add further perspective, I clearly remember my dad's brand new fully loaded Buick Electra cost him $4700 in '67. So that Mopar was pushing luxury car prices back then and that Road Runner was marketed for the young hotrodders of the day.
