I have a 2004 Double Cab V6 automatic and only had to add the cruise switch and everything else was ready to go.

I'm guessing his rig has electronic throttle. Its already computer controlled.

ok so help a dense guy out here, I don't know if there is a straight yes or no answer to it but I got a 2004 prerunner 3.4L v6 auto 2wd so do I or don't I need an actuator installed under the hood?

I don't see any unused plugs anywhere under the hood near the side fenders where an actuator might go.

I have owned this truck for like 36 hours so I have no idea whats under the hood or how this truck works so if you tell me what I am supposed to see if I don't need an actuator then I can see if I have that.

from what I can see, mine looks nothing like the pictures in the first post. I have a single throttle cable coming from the firewall going to the throttle body wheel and this throttle body wheel is plastic and has a plug connector on the side of it with 4 wires running to it from the engine wiring harness so hopefully that means something so you guys can tell me if im good without an actuator or if I will need to get one and ruin wires for it.

ok after rereading this it makes more sense to me now.

your saying if I find extra plugs under the hood then I need this thread and I need to put in an actuator, but if there are no extra plugs under the hood (and I in fact do not have any extra unused plugs under the hood) then in this case I need the thread you link to here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...on-2004-v6-4x4-manual-trans-with-pics.341438/

and I just follow the instructions there with the exception I don't need the clutch switch since I have an auto

if I understand what he is saying in that other thread, the engines ECM runs the CC and so there is no separate CC ECM for the 04 models either

You should have the electronic throttle body, install the cruise control switch and test, if the cruise control light comes on, your ready for a road test. The electronic throttle body began in 2003.

it would appear so, I checked the parts list through my vin number and it shows this: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/s?v=U_200404_TOYOTA_TACOMA_VZN195L-CRPDKAB&s=cruise+control

so since everything but the steering wheel switch and clutch switch is shown as "not applicable" to my truck, im sure I don't need any of it.

I looked under the dash and the brake switch has the white plastic so im not sure if that's correct? the ones I see people use is the blue one to replace the white ones so that's why im thinking "maybe" I "might" need to replace that if it doesn't turn off as it should.

I ordered a steering wheel and a CC switch to put in it from ebay.

I don't know whats involved in the "electronic" throttle body but mine has a single mechanical accelerator cable coming from the gas pedal and it looks very much like the regular throttle body except it has the plastic wheel on it and a 4 wire plug that im guessing is some sort of sensor that connects into it on the wheel side of the throttle body. there doesn't seam to be a lot there that looks like any sort of electronic throttle.

im not sure if its the electronic one or not but this is what my throttle body looks like:

I bought the brake switch and guess what, the factory one with the white shroud worked just fine.

    this all sounds so great

shit been going wrong all day for me

woke up to a broken toilet then burned breakfast then stepped in cats hairball all befor 8 am then after lunch today the guys I bough the leather steering wheel with CC switch called and said the leather steering wheel I ordered was messed up (slice in the leather) then after a hour or two searching I found another one for about the same price and that one turned out to be mislabeled and wasn't the Toyota one they advertised then I found a non leather stock style wheel that turned out to be too messed up so they guy told me after he pulled it off the shelf and saw it, he wasn't going to ship it because he said it was so messed up he wouldn't put it in his truck (gotta like the honesty there instead of just shipping me a messed up wheel) then finally I literally found the last wheel I could locate anywhere and stayed on the phone until it was pulled and checked to be good and it shipped out 5pm today.

then they come without the switch so I had to find a cruise control switch only they are not called cruise control switches (that the brake switches name) and instead its called the "speed sensing control" so after sorting all that out I spent another hour looking for one at a decent price to avoid paying $85 for a new one. I finally managed to source a used one in good condition for $25 and as it turned out it was the same one pulled from the wheel I bought but they strip them and put it all on a shelf so they don't sell wheels with CC switches still on them at that place

any chance converting to power windows and locks will also be this easy? that's my next project after CC

there are aftermarket options but they always look "added on" rather then looking like they belong there.

PW&L will be a negative unless you source a donor vehicle and harness.

yep im kinda seeing that and the door panels limit me to 04 style (I think the 01-03 are the same as the 04's) so they are near impossible to find even though early ones are out there.

im toying with the idea of trying to just buy the aftermarket switches and install those with OEM window and locks until I can find a parts truck with panels. after double checking cross references I found the Tacoma door parts are not the same as any other Toyota so I cant use one from a 4runner or other yota as a donor. I never checked the actual motor by itself but I assume the motors would cross over if need be but they are cheap and you can still buy the whole setup so that would be the plan I think IF door panels can be found first, without finding those in great condition (because my interior was well kept and still looks new) I don't see it happening.

I really didn't want aftermarket but its hard not to go there when you see full kits for windows and locks with remotes for around $100. just buying beat up old doors to strip the pw and pl parts (if I find them) would cost that much

Pulling is easy, loosen the nut a few threads, two knees on the bottom, two hands on the top, pull hard and wiggle, it pops right off. The trim piece is all you have to replace, it comes right off once the wheel is removed. I took mine off and used a hole saw to cut my hole for the switch in the factory trim piece, added a piece of scrim cloth sprayed black over the hole like the factory uses, dealer didn't know it wasn't factory until I told them. According to my service tech, they used to prepackage the add cruise control parts, and there was a template showing them where to make the hole.

I was thinking more along the lines of airbag removal and reinstall as well as what that long black wire is on the switch and where does it go and how to route it correctly kinda stuff.

also, what trim piece are you talking about?
