I do miss having a paved driveway, but can't bring myself to buy one

 

Awesome! I'd love to redo mine, just can't bring myself to spend that kind of coin doing it. Too many other projects in front of it.

 

Its a big chunk of cash to layout but after this winter dealing with the snowblow and the rocks. It'll be worth it. Plus I gained a little more parking area.

Took another day off, basically for no reason at all... My company does the use it or lose it with time off...

I'm taking a half day tomorrow, for the same reason. Last bit of leftover vacation time from last year, and if I don't use it the company will just make it disappear.

 

So I live on a small road with 6 houses total.. While we all wave and say hi we don't really communicate beyond that. If I'm having work done I'll throw a heads up to the neighbors I think it'll affect.. While my drive way was getting done yesterday the woman who live diagonal across from me came over and gave the paving crew some shit... I guess she was supposed to have some tree trimming done but there was no room to park the equipment on the street with all the paving equipment everywhere... So she threw a hissy on the guys...so her tree crew showed up then quickly left... This morning when her tree crew came back I was tempted to throw a hissy and ask if they had a permit....

 

Sucks when a company does that. They should reward you for working instead of taking time off paid while the company gets no production from you. The company I work for sucks at the way our time off works but at least once we accumulate it, it either carries over for a year or you can get a pay out for it one time a year.

 

I can see the philosophy behind your point but whole heartedly disagree. I think it's great when companies encourage their employees to take some time off, recharge the batteries. Life isn't about work, people need to relax some times, especially if they work in stressful environments, otherwise they burn out and are of no use to the company. An employee that uses vacation throughout the year will likely be more productive than one that does not since they don't burn out or get into a rut.

 

For myself I agree... But for others I work with they need the $$, so they end up working all year and losing all the time they accrued....even if the bought the time back from us at $.50 on the dollar I know a lot of guys who would go for that... Myself absolutely not... I use all 5 weeks...

Meh. Our company gives us the option. We can either elect to have up to a week of unused time turned into a check, or we can opt to use it by the end of May.

That's rough.

 

I use all my vacation during the year . Shit I even buy a extra week . My company used to reward people that went the whole year without using a sick day . They would buy a pizza party or food of some sort. They did away with that when we got bought out .

 

I do a lot of stupid shit, but sitting on the edge of a running wood chipper will never happen...
